One of the highlights of another brilliant Doors Open Days weekend has to be what could become a Scottish Tartans Museum and Heritage Skills Academy. It was amazing to be given a tour of this building on Walker Street in Paisley for the first time by its owner, Hope Vere Anderson. ❤ 🏴
Although the building hasn’t been used for years, it’s in relatively sound condition and smells dry inside. In one of the rooms, there’s the signature of a genuine Scottish legend, Robbie Coltrane, who ‘wis’ here in 1988. This is around the same time that Robbie starred in John Byrne’s autobiographical film, “Byrne About Byrne”, and a year before Byrne's award-winning 1987 television drama series, “Tutti Frutti”. Thank you to Celie Byrne for pointing this out today. 😀 🏴
The Scottish Tartans Museum will feature permanent and rotating centring on the celebrated and rich heritage of clan attire. The Heritage Skills Academy aims to preserve traditional Scottish artisan skills such as bonnet making, metalworks and engraving, tartan design, heraldry, sword smithing, stone carving, historic bespoke tailoring, and more. 🏴 🏴 🏴
