A deep partial solar eclipse will be visible over Cardiff tomorrow (12 August), and it’s set to be one of the most dramatic eclipse views any UK capital will see. Here’s what to expect:
- It begins around 6pm, reaches peak coverage just after 7pm, and finishes a little after 8pm.
- With around 93% of the Sun covered, Cardiff will see a striking “bite” out of the Sun as it drops toward the western horizon.
- For the best views, head somewhere with a clear line west — Cardiff Bay, Penarth Head, or the Vale coast are perfect spots.
- Please remember: regular sunglasses aren’t safe. You’ll need proper eclipse glasses to view it directly.
- The next partial eclipse visible from Wales will be in 2027, though once again Wales won’t be in the path of totality.
If the skies stay clear, it should be a beautiful sight — a perfect summer evening moment for Cardiff and the Vale.
