Peterborough charity ‘Shine’ to feature in BBC Radio 4 Charity Appeal
Shine, the spina bifida and hydrocephalus charity based in Peterborough, will feature in a BBC Radio 4 Charity Appeal during Spina Bifida Awareness Week this October.
Each year hundreds of expectant parents are told that their baby has spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus. Shine’s appeal aims to raise awareness of the support services they offer and where parents can go for advice and information following a diagnosis.
The appeal, which will be broadcast across the UK, tells the story of Shine member Delilah. Delilah was diagnosed with spina bifida in the womb during her mother Maria’s 20-week pregnancy scan.
The appeal will air on Sunday 25th October at 07.54 and 21.26 and be repeated on Thursday 29th October at 15.26. Listeners can tune in to BBC Radio 4 on their radio, or on their devices via BBC Sounds.
Chief Executive Kate Steele says, “Every year approximately 524 babies in England and Wales alone are diagnosed with spina bifida in the womb. Shine’s BBC Radio 4 Appeal will highlight the advice, information and support we can offer to expectant parents following a diagnosis and we hope to reach as many people as we can with our featured member’s story.
”BBC Radio 4’s 3-minute radio programme highlights the work of charities and in 2018/19 the appeals raised over £1.2 million.
