On yesterday's session I recorded a gorgeously tuned, but slightly too round sounding (in the context of the other instruments) yellow 🤩Gretsch Kick Drum. With no hole in the resonant head I couldn't put a mic inside the drum for more attack, so what to do? Mic the be**er side of the head! I know it's hardly original, but it certainly did work..both the definition and full tone of the drum were enhanced, ....well, they were as soon as I did a flip of the polarity switch on the be**er mic relative to the mic on the resonant head (NS10 speaker).

Left me thinking why don't I do this even when there is a hole in the resonant head? 🤔

Finishing the week setting up for an early 8am start on Monday; a remote Voice Over session for a new series, coming all the way from New Zealand.. very pleased to be working with the mellow and helpful people from:

In other news …am also very pleased that in testing today I confirmed the AKG C414 that was sounding windy earlier in the week is now quiet, crisp and fully functional! 🎉

In the end all it took was a dose of switch cleaner and some wiggling:) .. thank you Servisol Super 10!! 🦸

Time for some maintenance today.. the AKG C414ULS on the left is working perfectly.. the older C414ULS on the right sounds like someone's blowing a gale into it.. anyone have a thought on what might be the matter?

Toward the end of the week we welcomed some favourites back to start work on a new project after a few months break. As ever with these guys the session was a lot of fun, with some very tasty playing... particularly so on this occasion as I was brought MULTIPLE edible gifts …that pie was really something special 👨🏼‍🍳!

Been finishing up some mixes today ahead of a client visit tomorrow and the award for SAVIOUR OF THE DAY PLUG IN goes to the Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor from Plugin Alliance on the Acoustic Guitar.. The discreet circuit is a dream for smoothing out pokey transients and compacting the resonance in the low mid range all at once. Thank you!!

We'd like to welcome you to the first in our new series of live recorded sessions made down at the studio, with the twin aims of showcasing brilliant artists that have recently visited, and giving you our listener’s ears and eyes some joy.

Without further preamble then, please enjoy this first track from Becca Burn, it's called "Who Am I Now (Live at La Barca Sound)". She’s a wonderful singer/performer/writer, who very graciously visited us to record a couple of acoustic versions of songs from her latest EP.

The filming was done by the multi-faceted and talented Giovanni Almonte, and anything audio (besides the actual playing) was done by La Barca Sound.
