Very sad news… such a creative asset for a rural community… big respect to everyone that stewarded and made Sterts over the years!!

It is with immense sadness that we announce the closure of Sterts Theatre CIC.

Following careful consideration, the Board has taken the difficult decision to place the CIC into Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation. This comes at an exceptionally challenging time for cultural and arts organisations across the sector.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of Sterts - our employees, volunteers, artists, freelancers, audiences, partners, funders, donors and supporters.

Your creativity, generosity and commitment have shaped Sterts and the community around it.

Sterts Theatre CIC has been brought to life by generations of people who have given their time, talent, imagination and heart to this special place. We are deeply sorry that we have not been able to secure Sterts’ future.

To everyone who has given a part of themselves to our Theatre: thank you. You will always be part of its story.

💙 HAPPY WORLD CYANOTYPE DAY! 💙

We LOVE making cyanotypes at Fotonow — so today we’re digging into the archive and sharing one of our favourite projects ever.

These HUGE cyanotype panels were created as part of our exhibition celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Tamar Bridge.

There’s something we never get tired of about cyanotype — sunlight, chemistry, photography and that incredible blue. And going BIG with the process for this project was pretty special.

Thanks to everyone who turned up for today’s street photography and zine-making session at Fotonow - such a great afternoon of getting out into Plymouth, taking pictures, experimenting, and making zines!

Brilliant to see what everyone created and their different takes on what Plymouth looks and feels like.

A huge thanks to Plymouth Arts Cinema for working to create these sessions and bringing young people together through photography and DIY publishing.

Unlocked Youth is back for a new term!

A relaxed, neuroinclusive group where young people can learn real photography skills, explore creative ideas and work together towards a public exhibition.

No previous experience is needed, just an interest in photography and seeing the world through a lens. Rolling recruitment... join any time.

Unlocked is neuroinclusive and welcoming to everyone; no EHCP is required. Sessions are led by experienced creative practitioners, with support from youth workers, in our city-centre creative space.

Previous participants have told us that Unlocked helped them feel more confident, connected and creative. Parents have also noticed positive changes in their young person’s communication, independence and general wellbeing.

Places are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

🌿 A Wonderful Day at Caradon Woods 🌿

Our summer cohort from the Stories in Nature Project recently enjoyed a wonderful day immersed in nature at the beautiful Caradon Woods, with some members of the group also staying for an overnight camping experience.

It was a fantastic day filled with activities, learning and connection. Participants took part in woodworking workshops, made musical instruments from natural materials, learned how to safely set up a hammock, enjoyed wild swimming in the river and got involved in a variety of craft activities. There was also the opportunity to prepare and cook food over an open fire, bringing everyone together to share stories and experiences.

Most importantly, the day was full of laughter, conversation and friendship. It was a chance for people to step away from the pressures of everyday life, connect with nature and create lasting memories with one another.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a special experience. 💚

🍃Stories in Nature: Connecting with Nature in Caradon Woods 🍃

Another wonderful day on our Stories in Nature programme.

We were picked up from Odils Learning Foundation by Tamar Coaches LTD in a fantastic bus and travelled to Caradon Woods near Callington.

On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Phil from Greenwood Music CIC , who provided us with refreshments before we headed out on a photo walk with Emma from Fotonow (CIC) to River Camp. With the sun shining and temperatures high, it was lovely to reach the river and enjoy the cool, fresh air and peaceful surroundings.

After returning from the river camp, we enjoyed a delicious lunch and had some well-earned time to relax, including a chance to unwind in the hammocks.
Later in the day, we got creative with whittling and charcoal drawing, using natural materials and our surroundings as inspiration. These hands-on activities gave everyone a chance to slow down, be creative and enjoy being outdoors.

It was a fantastic day of nature connection, creativity, wellbeing and community. We enjoyed spending time together, connecting with nature, enjoying the sunshine and making the most of everything the woods had to offer.

🍀 Stories in Nature: Connecting with Nature in Caradon Woods 🍁

Another wonderful day on our Stories in Nature programme.

We were picked up from Odils by DAn Travel and travelled to Caradon Woods in a lovely, comfortable bus.

When we arrived, the rain had just passed, leaving the woods feeling fresh, peaceful and welcoming.

We were warmly welcomed by Phil from Greenwood Music and headed out with Jess and Mark from Fotonow to Meadow Camp.

At the camp, we spent some time taking part in photo activities. We explored the woodland surroundings through photography, looking closely at the details, colours, textures and natural shapes around us. It was a lovely opportunity to be creative, try different ways of capturing the environment and enjoy being present in the peaceful woodland setting.

Phil, Marina and Tatiana then organised an amazing meal for everyone, with fresh vegetables, hummus, flatbread and delicious vegan sausages fried over the fire. Sharing food together outdoors made the experience even more special.

We spent lots of time relaxing in the hammocks, enjoying the peaceful surroundings and taking in the beauty of the woods. Some of us enjoyed a swim in the river. We also got creative, making spatulas and drawing on flat stones being inspired by the environment around us.

It was a fantastic day of nature connection, creativity, wellbeing and community. We enjoyed slowing down, spending time together, getting creative and making the most of the fresh and welcoming woodland surroundings.

⚓ REMEMBRANCE (15)

This rarely seen British film is set around the pubs and clubs of the then-notorious Union Street in 1980s Plymouth and follows a group of young Royal Navy sailors during their last 24 hours ashore before their ship sets sail.

💻 DIGITAL ZINE WORKSHOP
Saturday 3rd October
Drawing inspiration from archive footage and materials selected from The Box's collections, participants will discover different stories, perspectives and representations of the city through time and learn how to edit together a digital zine

Working in partnership with Fotonow (CIC) and The Box Plymouth, we will leave our expectations behind and see what happens.
