You stood there for a long moment, wondering whether you were dreaming. Then you reached into your pocket.

Your fingers closed around a key.

You had no memory of putting it there.

With a nervous smile, you unlocked the door.

On the other side was not another room, but a vast field beneath a golden sky. In the distance stood a younger version of yourself, waiting patiently.

“You finally came,” they said.

“Came for what?”

Your younger self smiled.

“To find out what happens when you stop waiting for your life to begin.”

The wind swept across the field. Behind you, the blue door began to disappear.

For the first time, you understood.

The mysterious door had never been an escape.

It was an invitation.

You stepped forward.
