Travel update:- Transport for Wales say rail replacement buses will operate between Pontypridd, Aberdare and Merthyr Tydfil today. Trains will operate as normal between Cardiff and Pontypridd.

Replacement road transport will depart Aberdare at xx:15 the hour. From Pontypridd, replacement road transport will depart at xx:30 the hour.

Replacement road transport will depart Merthyr Tydfil at xx:55 the hour. From Pontypridd, road transport will depart at xx:10 the hour.

Travel:- Due to the heat Transport for Wales say the railway line has been damaged between Pontypridd and Merthyr and Aberdare.

For safety reasons, the line has been closed in this section of railway and will be unable to run any rail services on this line.

Rail services are running in/out between Pontypridd and Cardiff and services will be strengthened where possible.

Bus routes that can be used using rail tickets:
Pontypridd to Aberdare 60 and 61 Pontypridd to Merthyr T4 and 78

Renowned Welsh singer Iris Williams has died at the age of 79.

Born in Pontypridd, in 1946, Williams performed around the world including in the US, where she was living at the time of her death.

She was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama while working in a glove factory in Llantrisant.

She would eventually go on to perform for Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and for US President Gerald Ford on a number of occasions.

The daughter of an American GI, Williams was raised in a children's home and with a foster family in Tonyrefail, her brother said.
Her hits included He Was Beautiful and Pererin Wyf, a Welsh-language version of Amazing Grace.
