One Edinburgh, two festivals!
It's been a whirlwind. We arrived with flyers, posters and a blue poncho - putting on Baby Brain, with Kimberley Nixon. A tiny sliver of a shared dressing room had been taped off for our meagre set dressing. While the room was small, we were lucky enough to share it with our new showbiz friends including Magnus D Magnus, the magical MC. The D stands for 'danger" and he had a passport to back up this up!
Just when the play was bedding in, Tim had to leg it over to the Edinburgh TV Festival to produce a panel on "Vertical dramas”, as we've been writing some of those recently. Then run back to the classic form of storytelling before the curtain went up!
A highlight was comedy actor Greg McHugh showing up and giving huge praise and a tiny bit of feedback, which we implemented immediately. In fact, one of the best things we did was to make one small change to the play every day, to keep it moving forward and constantly developing.
We bumped into fringe legends, Tim Key, Ted Hill (whose mum came to see the play), Gyles Brandreth, Suzy (Eddie) Izzard, and many more - but for me the highlight was meeting J John Kearns , who I know via a uni friend Peter Lee. And our new friend, Robin Grainger, a man we saw struggle through 6 drunk hecklers while he gigged in a shipping container.
Our producer Jan Caston rocked up too. So we got her handing out fliers!
It was fun to meet some personal friends too. Like Adele, who was a child actor in Future TX And our secret PR machine and uni friend Stuart Arnott.
Along the way, over 10 shows, we picked up a 5 star review, a Fringe Theatre award and were one of Mervyn Stutter’s Pick of the Edinburgh Fringe
But best of all, we had many 'real people' leave reviews and feedback. Via social media, in person and on the review sites.
And then suddenly it was all over. And Kim made everyone cry with a closing night summary of the emotional journey so far. But we did it, we put on a show at Edinburgh Festival Fringe
