The Boy Without Shoes
It was a busy afternoon in the market. People rushed past, bargaining loudly, carrying baskets of vegetables, and chasing after the best deals.
In the middle of the noise, a little boy stood still. His shorts were torn, his shirt faded, and his small bare feet were dusty from the rough ground.
He stopped in front of an old man’s stall. The man was selling second-hand shoes, neatly arranged in pairs.
The boy’s eyes fixed on a small pair of blue sneakers. They were not brand new, but to him, they looked like treasure.
The old man noticed him and asked gently,
"Do you like these shoes?"
The boy smiled shyly, glancing down at his empty feet.
"Yes… but I don’t have money."
The old man studied the boy for a moment. His own heart remembered a time, many years ago, when he too had walked barefoot to school. Without another word, he picked up the sneakers, dusted them off, and held them out.
"Take them," he said, smiling warmly. "Just promise me you’ll help someone else one day."
The boy’s eyes filled with tears.
"I promise," he whispered.
Years later, that barefoot boy had grown into a man. One rainy evening, he was driving home when he saw a little girl standing in the rain, her clothes soaked through. She had no umbrella, no jacket, and her small arms hugged herself tightly.
He stopped the car, gave her his umbrella, and as he walked away, he smiled — remembering the promise he had made.
