🌍✨ Unlocking Abundance: Ruthe Farmer on Tech Inclusion & Women’s Empowerment ✨🌍
At the Global Power Women Conference 2024 hosted at The City University of New York, Ruthe Farmer, Founder & CEO of Last Mile Education Fund and Tech Inclusion Advocate, responded powerfully to the question on strategies that drive gender equity and diversity in technology education.
She emphasized that her work has always been grounded in the idea of abundance—the belief that talent and potential are everywhere, but the systems designed to nurture them are not. She challenged stereotypes around girls’ interest in technology, pointing out that the problem is not a lack of interest but a lack of approaches that genuinely resonate with them.
Reflecting on her pioneering work through initiatives like Aspirations in Computing (launched in 2007) and TECHNOLOchicas, Farmer described how she built networks to connect the few girls in each school raising their hands to pursue technology into strong communities and cohorts. That movement has since grown into a vibrant network of 35,000 young women who are solving real-world problems—from AI-driven healthcare solutions in Rwanda to innovative apps shaping global industries. Her message was clear: women are not working on trivial problems; they are creating transformative solutions for humanity.
The power of Ruthe Farmer’s story highlights the importance of building systems, networks, and opportunities that amplify women’s voices and potential in technology and entrepreneurship. Her vision of inclusion and resilience sets the stage for the next global conversation.

💡 Women like Ruthe Farmer remind us that gender equity in technology is not about fixing women to fit the system, but about transforming systems so women can thrive, innovate, and lead on a global scale.
