I keep going back to the same time in my life when I became a mum because it was supposed to be a joyous chapter, and while it was in many ways, it also became a period of deep self-discovery, loneliness, and a sense of losing myself in the maze of motherhood.
In those early days, I found myself in the beautiful chaos of parenting, yet feeling like I was losing touch with the woman I used to be. The sleepless nights, the constant demands, and the overwhelming responsibility left me feeling isolated and questioning my identity. Who was I beyond the title of "mum," and what did I want from this new chapter of my life?
I believed that sacrificing my personal needs, desires, and even a sense of identity was the price to pay for being a good mum. I thought that pouring all my energy into the role would eventually lead to happiness. Little did I know that this sacrifice was leaving me empty, longing for a connection to my true self and a sense of fulfilment.
So, what did I do?
I started small. I found joy in doing things I used to love before but I still felt lonely. I had to find the courage and motivation to connect with fellow mums who had walked a similar path, realising that I wasn't alone in this journey. Gradually, I embraced the idea that being a mum didn't mean sacrificing my individuality; it meant finding a new version of me who is stronger and more confident.
Today, I stand proud knowing that I found the balance and rediscovered my new version of me(because the old one wasn't serving me anyway). I've created a life where I am not just a mum, but also an individual with dreams, passions, and a unique identity. I've found a way to embrace motherhood without losing sight of the woman I am.
If you find yourself in a similar space, questioning your identity or feeling the weight of loneliness in motherhood, know that there's another way. Reach out if you need support, a listening ear, or just someone to share this journey with.
Remember, you are not alone! The challenges you face, the moments of doubt, and the victories, big or small – they're all part of this beautiful journey we call life. 🫶
