PING i540 GOLF IRONS - 60 SECOND REVIEW

If you’re a mid handicap golfer looking for more distance then you absolutely need to try the new Ping i540 irons because these are a distance machine! Improved feels and a strong look at address add to the appeal, even if the badge design does feel like a step back from the previous i530 which I thought was stunning!

Don’t forget you’ve also got the Power and Retro lofted spec too!

TOURNERBURY GOLF CENTRE, HAYLING ISLAND

Some of my favourite drone photos from a recent shoot for the team at Tournerbury! We had brilliant lighting and the course was looking lush and green with the new tees and bunkers that are now in play looking great!

Also had an opportunity to showcase the brilliant location with sea views from several holes and its place as a heartbeat of the community on Hayling Island.

Golf needs more 9 hole courses. Golf needs more places like Tournerbury! ❤️

ARE YELLOW GOLF BALLS REALLY WORSE???

Whilst robot testing would suggest they might be, I recently put this to the test to see if the differences are noticeable when in the hands of an average golfer and here are my results:

NOT REALLY! Play what you prefer is my recommendation unless you’re an elite amateur or professional golfer looking for marginal gains!

Also massive credit to for making their golf balls incredibly consistent!

TOURNERBURY GOLF CENTRE - HAYLING ISLAND

Over the last couple of years the course at Tournerbury Golf Centre has undergone extensive work thanks to the hardwork of the dedicated greenkeeping team led by with all new bunkers and tees plus improvements to the fairways and greens.

The team here are on a mission to be recognised as Hampshire’s best 9 hole golf course… so when you add the course conditions to the variety of holes (3x Par 3, 4x Par 4 and 2x Par 5 totalling just under 3,000 yards) and stunning sea views of the Emsworth/Chichester Channel from the signature 7th hole, it already feels like they might be deserving of that accolade already!

So it was great fun to get the drone out and show off the great work the team are doing here on a stunning May evening!

Also on site is a driving range, two sim rooms powered by GC Hawk technology, PGA professionals offering lessons and one of the best cafes on Hayling Island (trust me I go there a LOT!)

Have you played here recently? What did you think?

A couple of drone videos from a Friday evening shoot at Portsmouth Golf Centre. Whilst the primary goal was to capture photos of their new (and awesome!) Huxley Putting Green, the lighting at golden hour was great so I had to get a couple of videos of this brilliant facility, the outline of Portsea Island and Great Salterns golf course!

The new Srixon Q Star Tour is one of my favourite feeling golf balls on the market right now! At my average swing speed it seems to perfectly balance that softness that gives a feeling of compression with enough feedback where you want it!

I’m currently gaming the firmer Q Star Ultispeed but every time I pick this ball back up it’s so tempting to switch over for the feels alone!

Blackmoor Golf Club - One of the best parts about being a member here is that our course normally peaks twice a year, firstly for the Selbourne Salver, an elite amateur event we hold in April, and then again for our Club Champs in the middle of summer.

So after what has felt like the longest, wettest and windiest winter in a long time, the course which held up incredibly well in that period, has suddenly burst into life in recent weeks as our greenkeepers had it looking pure for the Salver last weekend.

Even though my golf game feels like it’s deserted me at the moment, it’s amazing how much green grass, blue skies and short sleeves makes all of that feel irrelevant!

But seriously, if the golf gods are reading this, can I have a break from the bad golf please?

CAMBERLEY HEATH - SURREY, ENGLAND

A brilliant experience yesterday playing Camberley Heath! Currently ranked 74th in England, which based on some of the courses I’ve played, certainly feels like it should be a lot higher as it’s definitely one of my absolute favourites!

A great mixture of holes from long, tough Par 4’s to short risk/reward ones that balance out perfectly and some very typical Harry C**t Par 3’s, two of which played brutally long into the wind yesterday and justified their very low stroke index!

The elevation changes were an unexpected surprise that added a real character to the course (especially the elevated opening!) whilst the wider setting gave me slight Wentworth vibes with amazing houses bordering many holes.

The course was in great condition, the clubhouse has a grandness we don’t usually see too often in the UK and the young lad we spoke to in the Pro Shop (& on the course) was one of the most friendly and welcoming people I’ve met as a visitor at a golf club recently.

I’d go back tomorrow if they’d have me! Also some great golf by my mate (see if you can spot him in one of the pictures!) to shoot an effortless +1!
