Alberto Giacometti’s lifelong struggle with self-doubt had paradoxically fueled his iconic, fragile, elongated figures. He often felt that he couldn't capture reality, leading to sculptures so thin they seemed to disappear, reflecting his inability to do justice to his vision, with some works even becoming tiny before growing large again as he sought to capture the 'real' distance and presence of figures.
