Plans for a national hub for the development of advanced semiconductor packaging are now underway, following the announcement of a £160 million investment from the UK Government in Glasgow City Region Innovation Zone (GCRIZ) projects.

Led by the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), the new centre will form part of the University of Strathclyde’s Advanced Net Zero Innovation Centre (ANZIC) in Renfrewshire. It will support UK and international customers with lab-to-scale packaging of semiconductor components for critical applications.

FANUC UK (FANUC Europe) has revealed the six teams of young people who have made it to the final of the WorldSkills UK Industrial Robotics competition, taking place in Wales this November. Following two days of intense qualifiers at Smart Factory Expo in June 2025, teams from Northern Regional College in Ballymena, Northern Ireland and Bridgend College in Wales will now battle it out to be crowned the best young robotics programmers in the UK, and win the chance to represent Squad UK at the WorldSkills international finals in Shanghai next year.

Swedish deeptech company Embedl has raised €5.5M in a pre-series A funding round from Chalmers Ventures, Fairpoint Capital, SEB Greentech, Spintop Ventures, and STOAF. After spinning out from Chalmers University of Technology, and kicking off commercial operations in 2022, Embedl has helped innovative startups and some of the world’s largest corporates, such as Kodiak Robotics and Bosch to optimize their products’ AI inference efficiency. A new University of Birmingham-led research hub aims to revolutionise UK manufacturing through Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help achieve Net Zero by 2050.

The Co-AIMS (Collaborative AI for Manufacturing Sustainability) Hub looks to pioneer AI-powered manufacturing ecosystems that eliminate waste, boost productivity, and increase sustainability.

Backed by £13.7 million of UKRI Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funding, the centre unites leading experts from the Universities of Birmingham, Bristol, Nottingham, Oxford, and Sheffield, and Cranfield University.
