On this day in 1955, reggae icon Beres Hammond was born in Annotto Bay, St. Mary.

Inspired by soul, jazz, ska and rocksteady, he rose from talent contests to fronting Zap Pow before launching a solo career filled with timeless hits like Groovy Little Thing, What One Dance Can Do and the classic Tempted to Touch.

Through challenges and triumphs, Beres’ voice has remained the soundtrack of love and lovers in reggae. 🇯🇲✨

Awarded the Order of Jamaica in 2013, his legacy continues to shape the music we love.

Tonight, as I was walking home, I saw two police men approach a young black guy who was sat at the bus stop waiting to go home ..

Two police officers approached the young guy who was doing nothing other than waiting his bus..

The officers were so aggressive in their approach, in the end I decided to get him a taxi home, even then the police were harassing him.. Tried to take his credit card !!

This guy did nothing..

In the end we got him a black cab home..

Reading Caribbean Express News will be making an official complaint!!

You cannot be harassed by the police for waiting for a bus at a bus stop !!

Has this happened to you !! Please let us know because right now I’m fuming 😡

Founder of the legendary People’s Sound System and People’s Sound Record Shop on All Saints Road, Daddy Vego was a true pioneer of Jamaican music and culture in the UK. 🇯🇲🇬🇧

More than music, he was a mentor, community advocate, and proud Rastafari who uplifted west London for decades.

Organised by , this plaque celebrates his lasting impact on Carnival, sound system culture, and community spirit.
