My antenatal mission is simple: prepare you to take a birth and baby adventure that's ALL about you, from start to finish.

There's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach with me (that's the doula touch) and whether I'm delivering a group or a private course, I put every ounce of energy into giving you what YOU need...

- discussions & tools to help you tap into your needs & priorities
- unbiased information & knowledge to boost your confidence
- relevant & practical skills that'll really help when the time comes

Curious? Bookings for autumn antenatal courses (both private and group) are now being taken. Head to my website to check them out:

Getting feedback like this from antenatal clients doesn't just make my day, it makes my week! Here's why...

For me, teaching antenatal classes will never just be about the information: the real focus of my birth preparation courses is YOU.

My mission is to build you up to birth & care for your baby with the confidence to do this YOUR way.

๐Ÿง  I do this with unbiased & relevant knowledge to help you make informed decisions.

๐Ÿ‘ซ I do this with practical skills and techniques that will make everything so much easier.

โค๏ธ I do this with the support that continues well beyond the end of our sessions.

Feedback like this, from two of my families on my July group antenatal course, helps me know that all of this is working beautifully, and that makes my little soul happy.

Will you use every things I teach you antenatally at your birth? No, but that's actually the point. This is why...

My antenatal classes are filled with the information, practical skills and discussions that build your toolkit for your birth & baby adventure.

This toolkit is the same as that one that lives under your sink or in the shed: it's not there to be used all at once, or on the same job, but to be dipped into when needed.

During my antenatal courses, we'll cover (amongst other things)...
- spontaneous labour, induction, assisted delivery & caesareans.
- massage, counterpressure, aromatherapy, breathwork & some other mindset tools
- information on all pharmaceutical forms of pain relief
- advocacy and decision making tools
.. not because I think you'll use them all. Not at all. I cover them so that IF you need them, or IF you want them, you've got them.

That level of preparedness is absolutely key for your mindset, for your confidence and for the level of control you'll have over your birth experience. Trust me on this, I see it time and time again.

During pregnancy, it can sometimes feel like we don't have a choice. That's not true.

Yes, situations arise.
Yes, trends are observed.
Yes, recommendations are made.
But there is always a choice.

What makes it complex is that humans are herd animals; we are evolutionarily programmed to follow the leader and side because our brains tell us that this will lead us to safety. And that's absolutely great if the situations, trends and recommendations make you feel safe... but what if they don't?

What if that thing that we feel we should choose, accept or do makes us feel a bit icky? A bit hesitant? Or simply raises questions?

We feel stuck.
Stuck in a situation we can't get out of safely because our instincts to follow the guidance are clashing with our instincts for self-preservation are clashing.

This isn't a rare occurence. I hear it all the time.

"I didn't want the GD test, but I didn't feel I could say no."
"I didn't want an induction... but there wasn't any other option."
"I didn't want an episiotomy, but it is what it is."

Flippant reflections? No. Trust me when I say those sentences always lead to stories that go deep... and not always in a happy way.

You ALWAYS have a choice, but sometimes pressured situations mean that we (or the people advocating for us) have to stand up and identify exactly what those choices are so that we can make the decisions that feel right for us.

"I always look forward to Thursdays - The Nest is my happy place"

Honestly, today was not the first time I've heard this from a Nester. But that doesn't mean that it means any less to me. In fact, every time I do hear it, it means more.

The Nest exists for moments like this: a break in the chaos of the day to come together and talk, laugh, sit, eat, drink and share the craziness of the new normal of life with a baby.

It feels revolutionary, but it's not.

This is how new motherhood was for centuries, for millennia. This gentle and supportive community was part of the rhythm of life.

Perhaps that's why it feels so good to be here.

'The Nest' doesn't ask us to do anything other than we're programmed to. We sit and breathe and exist and it's absolutely glorious.

Got a baby from brand new to just-about-crawling? We'd love to meet you. Tickets for August are live now and booking is essential.

Antenatal teachers, hypnobirthing instructors, doulas: we all know each other. We network, chat, collaborate and we form friendships just like all other colleagues do.

Trust me when I say that none of us - or the courses and services we provide - are ever exactly the same.

That's why it's not as simple as booking 'a class' or employing 'a doula': getting the service you want requires research.

And this week's blog post gives you the questions to ask as you do it.

Today's first session was a pure delight: we navigated birth in all its forms with more questions, discussions and 'yes but what if's' than I'd ever expected. In fact we overran!

But that's the dream: antenatal classes ARE value for money when they give you what you need. And coming armed with curiosity is the very best starting point for that.

I cannot wait to come back again next week to cover advocacy and birth partner support: I have an inkling that these guys are going to smash it...
