Yes, did you know that between November 2015 and January 2016, the skeletal remains of 252 individuals – some of them children - were dug up and moved to the Department of Archaeology, at the University of Reading for a more detailed study by Mary Lewis, a professor in Bioarchaeology, and her colleagues. This week, Mary is my guest, to tell me more about how they got permission for the exhumations, what they have learnt from the skeletons of those who died 100 years ago and what it tells us of Redhill way-back-when, and what’s happened to the bones now. 🔴 BREAKING NEWS for Redhill: three major developments planned for the town centre.

The owners of the Belfry want to redevelop property that’s alongside the shopping centre, for shops and homes.

The Belfry, shops and parking will remain.

If the plans go ahead it’d be a major boost to the town.

The three plans are (see picture):

1. To develop, from the main High Street entrance of The Belfry to, and including the old Tower pub, and create 3 shops, a restaurant and 72 flats above
2. From Poundland including Boots, to The Belfry entrance to create 10 shops and 89 apartments above.
3. To develop at the side entrance to The Belfry on Station Road, the 1960s shopping parade from Barclays Bank to The Salvation Army, and create 6 shops, a restaurant and another 72 flats.

See the plans at a public exhibition in The Belfry Shopping Centre:
• Friday 11th July from 1pm to 5pm
• Saturday 12th July from 10am to 2pm
