🚧 **Heads up, Rochdale! Roadworks Alert!** 🚧

Muriel Street's getting a bit of a makeover next week! Starting Monday, 29th July 2024, our trusty Rochdale Borough Council will be working on some essential electrical repairs 🛠️. This means a section of the road will be temporarily closed from 9am to 4pm every day until Friday, 2nd August 2024. Specifically, the closure will span 35 metres east starting from 75 metres east of its junction with Lockhart Street and Kings Road.

Now, we know roadworks can be a bit of a bother, especially without an alternative route for vehicles. But think of it as some short-term pain for long-term gain. This is crucial work that helps keep our community’s infrastructure in tip-top shape.

🚀 Exciting times ahead for Heywood! 🚀

Rochdale Council has just over a month to finalise a game-changing £20 million investment plan for Heywood town centre. This funding, part of the UK Government's Long-Term Plan for Towns, is a golden opportunity to transform our beloved town. The council must submit their vision and a detailed three-year investment plan by 1 August 2024 to secure the funds.

A Heywood Town Board, including local councillors, the MP, police, healthcare reps, and community figures, is hard at work drafting this plan. Their aim? To identify key areas for investment such as transport, safety, and education through public engagement. The government has even chipped in an extra £50,000 to support this proposal development.

And that's not all! The council has also secured over £879,000 in National Lottery Heritage Funding to restore Broadfield Park Slopes, bringing the total project funding to a whopping £1.68 million. Archaeological investigations have been ongoing since 2021, ensuring that this historic site gets the attention it deserves.

This investment is a massive win for Heywood, promising to rejuvenate our town and improve the quality of life for all residents. Imagine better transport links, safer streets, and top-notch educational facilities – all within our reach!

🚦 **Safety First: Rochdale Trials Body-Worn Cameras for School Crossing Patrols** 🚦

Rochdale Borough Council is taking a bold step to protect our little ones and dedicated school crossing patrol staff by trialling body-worn cameras. This initiative follows a series of alarming incidents where drivers failed to stop, resulting in two children being hit and a crossing officer being assaulted.

There have been three harrowing incidents over the past few months:
- On 16 May, a 4-year-old boy was clipped by a car on Hartley Lane and Daventry Road.
- On 21 May, an 11-year-old girl was reversed into by a car on Kiln Lane, Milnrow.
- On 6 June, a motorist assaulted a crossing patrol officer on Edenfield Road and Churchill Street.

Councillor Shah Wazir has assured us that the council is fully committed to safeguarding our community by supporting police prosecutions and rolling out these cameras at high-risk crossings. This trial aims to deter reckless drivers and ensure the safety of our children, parents, and staff.

It's heartening to see our local council taking such proactive measures. Safety is paramount, and these cameras could be a game-changer in making our school routes safer. What do you think of this initiative? Have you or someone you know been affected by dangerous driving near schools? Share your thoughts and let's discuss how we can support this effort together.
