Yesterday we celebrated the release of Chris Connelly’s new book, all about Cargo Studios.

We love the history of the building that we now call our home, so it was ace to get to celebrate it with a stellar line up of guests who have all previously recorded here - Martin Moscrop (A Certain Ratio), Andy McCluskey (OMD), Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order) & Clint Boon (Inspiral Carpets).

CALL OUT FOR ROCHDALE MUSICIANS - PAID COMMISSION

Rochdale has a deep and diverse musical legacy, and so much of it happened right here in this historic studio. This iconic space has played a role in the careers of Joy Division, Gang of Four, The Stone Roses, and hundreds more who recorded here.

As part of Rochdale’s year as Greater Manchester Town of Culture we present Rochdale Music Stories: a new studio-recorded compilation album and a one-off live performance - a collaboration with Rochdale Development Agency, The Stockport Music Story and Voltalab Sound Studios.

We’re commissioning Rochdale-based artists to rework classic tracks first recorded at the legendary Cargo and Suite 16 studios. We’re looking for bold, original takes that reflect the range and talent of Rochdale’s music scene today.

If you’re a musician from Rochdale with a strong creative voice, we want to hear from you. Just fill in the expression of interest form on our website www.voltalab.co.uk/rochdale-music-stories
