Today, we celebrate the incredible women who are making waves in the music industry—not just in front of the mic, but behind the scenes too.
In the UK, women make up a huge portion of music fans, yet they’re still underrepresented in key creative and technical roles. Women currently account for just 16% of the workforce in positions like producers, sound engineers, and technicians (UK Music’s “The Diversity Report,” 2020). And when it comes to producing, only 13% of producers are women (PRS Foundation, 2020), while just 10% of female musicians identify as producers or engineers (BBC Radio 1, 2020).
At Voltalab, we’re working to try and change this narrative. As a female-run studio, we’re committed to creating an inclusive and empowering space for women in all areas of music production. Historically, recording studios haven’t always been the most welcoming environment for women, but we’re here to help change that and amplify women’s voices—both in the studio and on the stage.
