👷‍♂️ In this month’s issue we check out Bóithrín na Saoirse; Designed by architects Desiun Architects and constructed by Pat Loftus Construction Group, Bóithrín na Saoirse comprises five detached family homes on the site of a former halting site in Galway. Commissioned by Galway City Council in association with Cena, the brief called for Culturally Appropriate Housing — a deceptively simple requirement that became the central architectural question of the project.

🏙 We take a look at Gascoigne West Phase Two; White Arkitekter has completed the latest phase of the ambitious Gascoigne Estate regeneration in Barking, one of London’s largest estate renewal programmes. Delivered for Be First, the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham’s regeneration company, West Phase Two introduces 386 new homes alongside a 1,500m² playground and extensive public realm improvements designed to strengthen community life.

🏡 And we unveil The Savoy. Shortlisted for Residential Development of the Year at the RICS Northern Ireland Awards 2026, the construction of The Savoy Apartments in Bangor demonstrates how housing-led developments can integrate with local context and deliver long-term value. Behind the design of The Savoy Apartments were McGarry-Moon Architects, a RIBA Award winning architectural practice based in Northern Ireland, who worked alongside contractor, Derryleckagh Contracts Ltd.

🤿 New spaces for young people and the community are now officially open at Tinside Lido, paving the way for year-round use of one of Plymouth’s most iconic waterfront landmarks. The lido has been carefully restored and reimagined as part of the UK’s first National Marine Park, with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Heritage Horizons Award, the UK Government’s Youth Investment Fund and Levelling Up Fund and Plymouth City Council.

🦺 The project has transformed underused areas of the Grade II-listed Art Deco building, safeguarding it for future generations while creating new opportunities for people to connect with Plymouth Sound. It has brought the first floor of the lido back into use as a flexible, multi-purpose space for youth activities, digital learning, training and events, supported by a new kitchen and bar facility. 🏥 Heralding a new era for rehabilitation, the country’s first NHS National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) has been completed in a £105m project at Stanford Hall Estate, Melton Road, Stanford on Soar, Loughborough. The 70-bed, state-of-the-art specialist rehabilitation centre is designed for NHS patients who have experienced a life-changing illness or injury and will be run and staffed by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH).

🌍 What happens at the NRC is anticipated to be of international significance too – the research, innovation and evolution in rehabilitation technology and treatment is anticipated to be global in its impact and future potential. The building is also the NHS’s first operationally carbon neutral building, featuring solar panels on the roof and four air source heat pumps in the adjacent energy centre. Fibre cement facades delivered by Swisspearl UK.

🗣 The new facility was delivered by Integrated Health Projects (IHP), the joint venture between VINCI Building and Sir Robert McAlpine. Capital funding for the construction of the NRC was provided by the government’s New Hospitals Programme. Anthony May, Chief Executive of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We are proud to be at the point of preparing to open the doors of this pioneering facility to our first patients. The difference the NRC will make to patients and families cannot be underestimated.
