Today, our hearts overflow with joy and gratitude. As marriage counsellors and mentors, we’ve spent years praying for, guiding, and preparing many couples around the world for this beautiful covenant called marriage. But nothing compares to the joy of witnessing our own daughter step into this sacred journey.

Watching her walk down the aisle reminded us that God is faithful. Every seed of prayer we’ve sown, every word of blessing we’ve spoken to others , He has brought to pass even in our own lives.

I remember sitting across from them in my office — two people who had once vowed to spend forever together. Michael, with his arms folded, eyes darting away. Tolu, blinking back tears, her voice barely above a whisper.

“He doesn’t talk to me anymore,” she said.
“She doesn’t listen,” he replied, almost instantly.
The room fell silent.

You’d think, after twenty years as a marriage counselor, I’d have grown numb to these moments. But I haven’t. Every couple I meet carries a story — a beginning full of fire, a middle full of motion, and a present that sometimes feels like they’re roommates instead of lovers. But I’ve learned this: emotional distance is not the end — it’s a signpost. It’s a call to come closer.

The Emotional Drift

Emotional disconnection doesn’t happen overnight. It creeps in, slow and silent — during hurried mornings, unspoken hurts, distracted dinners, and phones that never stop buzzing. What once was laughter becomes silence. What once was touch becomes routine. The heart stops reaching.

But here’s the hope: what drifted apart can come back together. The same way two hands once found each other at the altar, they can find each other again — through intentional effort, not just passion. And it starts with one brave step.
