It's not very often we cry here at Aroundtown Magazine, but this story was one where it was hard to stop the tears rolling.
Ahead of the launch of her debut book - For My Boys - we spoke to Pen*stone woman Claire Throssell to hear how she's written a loving legacy to her two sons, Jack and Paul, who were killed by their father in October 2014.
What this lady has been through is unthinkable and somehow, in spite of her own grief - or fuelled by it - she has campaigned tirelessly to make sure children killed by their parents will never be forgotten.
Just before we went to print, we were delighted to see that the government are overturning the 'presumption of contact' law which has previously prioritised parental contact with their children even when abuse has been alleged or reported.

It's panto season soon (oh, yes it is!) and for this edition's Aroundtown Meets we had the absolute pleasure of interviewing the three creative storytellers behind Tin Pot Theatre.

Since 2012, Suzy, Jamie and Kev - plus their band of merry cast members - have been giving their time and energy to create Wath's much-loved pantomime at Montgomery Hall Theatre.

They're all volunteers who don't take a penny or a magic bean from the pot. All money generated from ticket sales goes back into creating what has become a cornerstone of so many families' festive celebrations.

If you've never been to a Tin Pot show before, find out what you're missing here https://www.aroundtownmagazine.co.uk/aroundtown-meets-tin-pot-theatre/

While conversations about hormonal health often centre around women’s experiences with menopause, far less attention is given to the hormonal challenges men can face.

That’s something 65-year-old Jeff Anders, from the Dearne Valley, hopes to change.

After struggling for months with brain fog, fatigue, weight loss and suicidal thoughts, Jeff was diagnosed with hypogonadism, a condition caused by low testosterone levels.

Jeff came in to speak to us about how he's turned his health issues into a positive by becoming a fundraiser for Barnsley Hospice and Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

It’s the end of an era as Wickersley gets set to say goodbye to its beloved fashion boutique Carol Ann. After decades of dressing generations of women, Carol is heading off for a well-earned retirement.
Her final day will be on Thursday 2nd October so you’ve got just over 2 weeks to bag a bargain in her huge farewell sale.
We’ll miss her terribly and are ever-grateful for her enduring support over the years.
Fun fact: without Carol, there may not have been an Aroundtown Magazine today as she was the one who put our owner, Cheryl, forward for a job over 15 years ago.

A sweeping corner of the South Yorkshire countryside, once roamed by Roman settlers and medieval deer, is at the heart of a growing legal storm as local residents rally to oppose plans for a colossal solar farm.

We spoke with Save Our Greenbelt - Conisbrough Parks members Janet and Billy to hear about how they believe the solar farm would devastate a site of profound historical and ecological significance.

Long before the roar of Molineux echoed with Premier League glory, the golden era of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC was being shaped on a modest, muddy Miners Welfare pitch almost a hundred miles away in South Yorkshire.

On the sidelines was Mark Crook, a retired footballer and chip shop owner from Wath whose belief in nurturing young talent led to the creation of one of England’s earliest football feeder systems.

This December, a new book called Feeding The Wolves is being released about Mark Crook's Wath Wanderers and you have until the end of September to pre-order your copy at the reduced price of £12 (saving you a tenner on the RRP).

Ahead of the launch, we spoke with football historian Chris Brook to hear more about the 114 players (and counting!) they have discovered played for Wath Wanderers and went on to become professional footballers.
