💙 Community News: Citizens Advice North Hertfordshire 💙

Local runner Clifford Smith completed the London Marathon in an incredible 4 hours 44 minutes, raising over £10,000 for Citizens Advice North Hertfordshire.

Cliff ran in memory of his late wife Julie, with the charity having supported them both during a difficult time following her cancer diagnosis. His effort has been described as both moving and inspiring.

Citizens Advice North Hertfordshire is a local independent charity supporting thousands of people each year across issues including debt, benefits, housing, employment and the cost of living -— with every donation helping to keep this vital service running.

A huge thank you to Cliff and everyone who has supported his fundraising.

What does it really mean to be a manager?

I once thought an event I managed had gone well - a few minor issues, nothing serious. The client disagreed.

Those “minor issues” were actually important points I should have spotted, but I was busy doing tasks instead of managing the team.

Their response stuck with me:
“Then why weren’t you managing?”

A reminder that leadership isn’t about doing everything - it’s about stepping back and overseeing the bigger picture.

We're always happy to support fantastic local community events such as Royston In Blue. The event has become a real highlight in the local calendar, bringing people together while raising awareness and funds for Teenage Cancer Trust.

🏍️ Out & About: Octa Ride - BikeFest 2026 Returns to Flint Cross 🏍️

BikeFest is back for 2026 after last year’s huge success, which saw over 1,500 visitors - and it’s set to be even bigger, louder and better.

Taking place on Sunday 19th July, 9am–6pm at Flint Cross (SG8), the event brings together bikers, families and motorcycle fans for a full day of high-energy entertainment.

🎨 Royston Cave June Highlights: New Creative Art Workshop 🎨

Royston Cave is offering a unique creative workshop this June, giving visitors the chance to create their own artistic interpretation of the cave carvings - just as early illustrator William Stukeley did when he first visited in 1742.

In collaboration with The Creative Canvas, this guided workshop is open to artists of all abilities and includes two drawing sessions exploring light, shadow and contrast. All materials are provided, and participants can take their artwork home.

📌 Friday 26th June
📌 Sessions at 1pm & 2.45pm (1 hour each)
📌 £18 per person | Small group size (max 9) – advance booking recommended

📌 The cave is also open for guided tours on weekends and Bank Holidays until the end of September.

🌟 Spotlight On: The Brian Leslie Racher Charitable Trust 🌟

The Brian Leslie Racher Charitable Trust is a Royston-based registered charity that provides grants to local organisations for the benefit of the community.

Established in 2004 in memory of Roystonian Brian Racher, the Trust has now awarded over £1 million in grants to support a wide range of local projects - from Royston Foodbank, Citizens Advice and Royston Museum to community events, sports clubs and voluntary groups.

Funding is available for organisations working within Royston and surrounding parish boundaries, supporting projects that benefit local residents.

A full list of requirements and guidance is available online, and applications are considered at quarterly trustee meetings throughout the year.
