Being a linguist will obviously help you learn Cornish. But there's no rush to understand the fancy "lexicon of grammar terminology" either.

Obviously, trying to wrap your head around "second-person plural conjugations" sounds like an absolute nightmare.

Just learn things slowly... at your own pace. One word at a time. You will get there!

Romans go home???... I struggle with a phrase like this .. but for those who do fancy a challenge. . "Romanyow ewgh dhe-dre!" possibly?

Pronunciation takes time. Please don't worry about getting every syllable "flawless" from day one. I personally pronounced words like "glaw" and "naw" strangely for 6 years... and it never once held me back from enjoying the language.

Cornish is a living, breathing community, not an elocution test. A language thrives on enthusiastic beginners just like yourselves... brave enough to make mistakes!

If you translate words straight out of a dictionary... you can easily find yourself in a bit of a linguistic tangle. Take the word "humbug" for example.

In Cornish, it changes completely depending on what kind of humbug you are actually talking about!

Flows - Total nonsense or humbug (perfect for calling out a fake wizard's grand speech).

Tuller - A hoaxer or a humbug (the trickster pulling the strings behind the scenes).

Hwegyn gales - Literally a "hard sweet", meaning a traditional boiled sweet or humbug!

Can you guess which story is coming next?

Say it whenever you want to call out someone's absolute nonsense, idle talk, and tripe.

Also, wool... "gwlan" is definitely a tricky one to say. Good luck wrapping your tongue around that!
