A Cradley Heath man has been jailed after a firearm was discovered during an investigation into a vehicle fire in Dudley.

The incident began when emergency services responded to an arson attack involving a car on Stourvale Road, Lye, in July 2025. The fire later spread to a nearby empty building, leading investigators to search the area.

During the search, officers found another vehicle inside the unit. A self-loading pistol was recovered from the car along with other items, including mobile phones and a small amount of cannabis.

Forensic specialists later identified DNA belonging to Terrell Billingham on the handle of the firearm. Experts confirmed the weapon was capable of being used.

Billingham, 24, from Cradley Heath, was arrested and later charged with firearm possession. He denied the offence but was found guilty following a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

On Friday 3 July, he was sentenced to six years in prison.

West Midlands Police said officers continue to work to identify and remove illegally held fi****ms from communities and are encouraging anyone with information about illegal weapons to come forward.

The investigation and efforts to tackle firearm-related crime remain ongoing.

Three women have been jailed after carrying out a series of distraction thefts targeting vulnerable people across Manchester.

The trio were sentenced at Manchester Crown Court after being found responsible for a number of offences, including an incident where a 97-year-old woman had an antique jade bracelet stolen while she was standing in the city centre.

The court heard that the women approached the elderly victim on Dale Street while she was waiting for her husband. Two of the offenders distracted her by holding her hand, hugging and kissing her, while the bracelet was taken from her wrist.

Police believe the group was involved in hundreds of similar pickpocket offences in the area.

The court also heard details of other incidents involving vulnerable victims. In October 2025, one of the women approached a mother walking her child to nursery in Rusholme, allegedly attempting to steal jewellery and a mobile phone before leaving when the victim called for help.

In another incident in November, two of the women allegedly distracted a woman on Oxford Road by asking for help before stealing a gold bracelet from her wrist.

A further incident took place in January 2026, when all three women allegedly targeted another woman in Manchester city centre. While two women distracted the victim, the third was accused of acting as a lookout during the attempted theft.

The women were arrested on 14 January 2026 following investigations into the offences.

Sefora Mazarache, of Jessop Street, Manchester, was sentenced to 38 months in prison for attempted robbery.

Geta Schian, of Calbourne Avenue, east London, received 28 months for attempted theft from a person.

Geneza Dumitru, of Dukinfield Road, Manchester, was also sentenced to 28 months for robbery.

The case highlights the importance of protecting elderly and vulnerable members of the community from organised distraction thefts.

A murder trial at Teesside Crown Court has heard detailed medical evidence about the injuries suffered by two-year-old Isabelle Welsh before her death.

Jurors were told that experts found more than 100 injuries on the toddler’s body, including fractures, bruising and other serious trauma. Prosecutors allege the injuries were caused by repeated acts of violence over a period of time before Isabelle died in September 2025.

The court heard evidence from Home Office pathologist Dr Sam Hoggard, who told jurors that the pattern of injuries suggested deliberate harm rather than an accident. He said Isabelle had suffered multiple injuries at different stages of healing, including fractures to several parts of her body.

A specialist eye doctor also gave evidence, telling the court that Isabelle had extensive bleeding in her eyes, which prosecutors say can be linked to severe shaking.

The prosecution claims that the fatal injuries happened on the day emergency services were called, alleging Isabelle suffered a serious head injury that caused bleeding in the brain.

The court also heard allegations that Isabelle suffered serious s*xual injuries before her death. Prosecutors say the injuries were consistent with an assault.

Isabelle’s mother, Alexandra Walker, 25, and her partner Harrison Simpson, 22, are both accused of murder. They also face allegations including causing or allowing the death of a child, assault by pe*******on and child cruelty.

Both defendants deny all charges and maintain that Isabelle’s injuries were the result of accidents.

The defence teams argue that the injuries were not caused intentionally, while prosecutors say the evidence shows a pattern of repeated abuse.

The judge has reminded jurors that both defendants are presumed innocent unless the prosecution proves the case beyond reasonable doubt.

The trial is continuing at Teesside Crown Court, with further evidence expected to be heard.

Two teenagers have been jailed over a violent machete attack that left a man with serious facial injuries in Widnes.

Nineteen-year-old Jayjay Standen, of Lacey Street, Widnes, was sentenced to 17 months in prison at Liverpool Crown Court after admitting affray. His sentence also included the activation of a previously suspended two-month jail term.

A 16-year-old boy from Widnes, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced to 40 months in custody after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a bladed article in a public place.

The court heard that police were called to Elizabeth Court in Widnes at around 5.40pm on 15 June 2025 following reports of an assault.

A 22-year-old man had been approached by a group of teenagers who behaved aggressively towards him. During the incident, the 16-year-old struck the victim with a machete before the group fled the scene.

The victim suffered a large cut to his cheek and a fractured jaw as a result of the attack.

Following investigations, officers identified several suspects, including Standen and the 16-year-old. Police established that the younger teenager had carried out the machete attack, and both were later arrested and charged.

The sentences were handed down at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, 29 January 2026.

The case is another stark reminder of the devastating impact of knife crime and the serious consequences faced by those who carry and use dangerous weapons.

A convicted child s*x offender from Tonbridge has been sentenced to a further eight years in prison after two additional victims came forward to report years of abuse.

Christopher Hutson, 66, who is already serving a prison sentence for separate s*xual offences, was handed the additional sentence at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, 19 June 2026.

The latest victims contacted police after learning that Hutson had previously been convicted of targeting another child. Their reports led to a further investigation into offences committed over several years prior to 2017.

Hutson, formerly of Lodge Oak Lane in Tonbridge, was subsequently charged with seven offences, including r**e, s*xual assault and engaging in s*xual activity in the presence of a child.

He denied the allegations, but following a trial, a jury found him guilty of the offences.

Sentencing him, the court imposed an additional eight-year prison term. Upon his release, Hutson will also be subject to a further two years on licence.

Police praised the bravery of the victims for coming forward and helping to secure justice, highlighting the importance of reporting abuse, even many years after it occurred.

The case serves as a reminder that offenders can still be brought to justice long after their crimes have been committed, and authorities continue to encourage victims of s*xual abuse to seek support and report offences to the police.

A trainee surgeon has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after being convicted of ra**ng two women he met through social media.

Salil Korambayil, 34, of Redhill, Surrey, was jailed at Truro Crown Court after being found guilty on three counts of r**e following a retrial.

Korambayil attacked the two victims in separate incidents in North Devon and Cornwall between August 2020 and March 2021. The women were assaulted in their own homes after meeting him online.

The former trainee colorectal and vascular surgeon had previously been convicted by a jury in November 2023. However, his convictions were later quashed by the Court of Appeal, which ordered a retrial.

Following the second trial, Korambayil was again found guilty and sentenced to seven years in prison for offences against each victim, with the sentences to run consecutively, resulting in a total prison term of 14 years. He has also been placed on the s*x offenders register for life.

In a powerful victim impact statement, one of the women described how the appeal and retrial forced her back into the darkest period of her life.

She said the original conviction had allowed her to begin healing, but the retrial reopened old wounds and prolonged her trauma.

"The appeal and retrial forced me back into the darkest period of my life," she said. "Although I will likely still be living with the consequences of your actions long after your sentence has ended, I am grateful that I have been afforded a level of justice that many do not."

Detective Inspector Daniel Massey, who led the investigation under Operation Humilis, praised both victims for their courage and resilience.

"I want to praise the victims for having to go through the trial process a second time," he said. "Their courage, resilience and perseverance is a testament to who they are."

He also thanked investigators, prosecutors and partner agencies for their work in securing justice.

Devon and Cornwall Police reiterated their commitment to supporting victims of s*xual offences and encouraged anyone who has experienced abuse to come forward and seek help.

A unanimous jury at Hull Crown Court has convicted three asylum seekers following an 18-day trial into the grooming and s*xual abuse of a vulnerable 16-year-old girl. The defendants, all Afghan nationals who identify as Arab, were found guilty of multiple offenses spanning from July to November 2025.

The convictions follow a targeted investigation by a specialized child s*xual exploitation unit, which was initiated after safeguarding professionals raised concerns regarding the teenager's welfare. Investigators discovered that the victim initially encountered 24-year-old Hamdulluh Hamdadd by chance at a local retail business. Hamdadd subsequently used manipulative tactics, including giving gifts to foster a sense of obligation and isolation, to establish control over the victim before introducing her to his co-defendants.

The prosecution demonstrated that the three men systematically groomed the teenager to secure her trust. She was subsequently subjected to repeated s*xual abuse at various properties throughout Hull.

Police executed coordinated search warrants across Hull and West Yorkshire, leading to the arrests of the suspects. The investigation relied heavily on digital communication data, surveillance footage, and witness statements to establish the timeline and scope of the exploitation.

Defendant Summary & Convictions
Hamdulluh Hamdadd (24), of Park Grove, Hull: Convicted of facilitating child s*xual exploitation and obtaining s*xual services from a child. He previously admitted to possessing extreme po*******hy and creating an indecent image of a minor.

Rafiullah Naseri (20), of Spring Bank, Hull: Convicted of facilitating child s*xual exploitation and obtaining s*xual services from a child.

Amjid Akakhail (22), of Pearson Street, Wakefield: Convicted of obtaining s*xual services from a child. He previously admitted to creating an indecent image of a minor.

All three individuals were remanded in custody throughout the legal proceedings and appeared in court for their verdicts on June 25, 2026. The judge deferred the matter briefly, ordering all three men to be held in custody to face formal sentencing at Hull Crown Court the following day.

A former teacher and Scout leader who was jailed for s*xually abusing two boys died of natural causes while serving his prison sentence, a new report has concluded.

Russell Howard-Tricker, 83, died at HMP Littlehey in Cambridgeshire on 18 March 2025 while serving a 14-year sentence for historic child s*x offences.

A report by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman found that a consultant in palliative medicine identified three joint causes of death: pancytopenia secondary to carbimazole, heart failure caused by ischaemic heart disease, and pulmonary fibrosis. Hyperthyroidism was also recorded as a contributing factor.

An inquest later concluded that Howard-Tricker died of natural causes.

Investigators noted that the former teacher was in poor health and had very limited mobility. The report also revealed that no next of kin was listed on his prison records and none was identified after his death.

On the night he died, a prison officer discovered Howard-Tricker lying on the floor of his cell, semi-naked and covered in urine and faeces. The officer observed that he was still breathing and moving his arms and legs but, in accordance with prison procedures governing night-time cell entry, waited for additional staff before entering the cell.

The ombudsman raised concerns that the policy may not be sufficiently flexible when dealing with frail or seriously ill prisoners. However, the Governor supported the actions of staff and considered whether any lessons could be learned from the incident.

An independent clinical reviewer commissioned by NHS England found that Howard-Tricker had received a reasonable standard of healthcare in prison, equivalent to that available in the community. Two recommendations were made to healthcare staff, although neither was directly linked to his death.

Howard-Tricker was convicted at Chelmsford Crown Court in October 2019 of s*xually abusing two boys. The court heard that he groomed and abused one victim from the age of 13 while working as a teacher at a school in Colchester.

He also took indecent photographs of another boy he knew through the Scouts and s*xually abused him during the same period at a caravan in St Osyth.

He was arrested at Birmingham Airport in December 2018 after police discovered he had been living in Prague before returning to the UK to face justice.
