On the night of 1 Muharram 1448 AH, a brand new black silk cover for the Holy Kaaba was fitted, marking the start of the new Islamic year. The Kiswa, which weighs 1,415 kg and has 30 Quranic verses stitched in gold and silver thread, took 150 Saudi craftsmen up to 11 months to make. It was created at the King Abdulaziz Complex in Makkah at a cost of over 25 million Saudi Riyals.
