Everyone heads to The Roaches. Almost nobody heads to the hill that looks straight at them.
Gun Moor sits on the hinge point between two landscapes — the Cheshire Plain stretching out west toward Wales, and the full sweep of the Peak District moors to the east. Roaches, Hen Cloud, Ramshaw Rocks, Shutlingsloe, Tittesworth Reservoir… all laid out from one quiet, unassuming summit.
Two very different worlds, stitched together by a single footpath. 4.5 miles, around 500ft of ascent, and a brilliant little adventure hiding in plain sight above Rushton Spencer.

This is one of the most dramatic viewpoints in Cheshire — where the hills of the Peak District suddenly drop away into the wide, flat Cheshire Plain.

It’s a short walk, but the climb at the start makes that first view even better.
