A one off tax on landlords to fund a cash pay out for rising heating bills.
People are already complaining of high rents.
What do these politicians expect the landlords will do, accept it and swallow the costs?
No, not likely. Many landlords may pass the rising costs onto the tenants. This will cause more poverty for more people.
The majority of these energy bills are from gas and electric. Instead of the ordinary tax payer being the consumer let them be the producer.
Bring back the feed in tariff system where spare electrictity generate can be offset against bills.
Give proper funding to home owners to install green measures - air source heat pumps, solar panels. These provide green electricity, can off set bills, meet net zero ambitions and genuinely help people.
Other improvements include double glazing. Many older properties in the UK are still single glazed. Help fund double glazing to improve heat retention.
If the government doesnt want to give out free money then have a tiny amount on interest on it.
Any other common sense ideas?
