A brilliant performance from Jo Freya, Fi Fraser, Sarah Matthews, and Doug Eunson – gift-wrapped as Narthen – to end 2025 at the Everyman Folk Club. Their festive offering was a sublime mix of songs and tunes - secular and sacred; rousing and sensitive; traditional and contemporary - including familiar carols and self-penned material. The glorious voices of this quartet, singularly and in harmony, were uplifted by their amazing accompaniments, and we relished the stunning representations of their assortment of instruments. Thank you all for a stocking-full of joy, sparkle, and panache.

Huge thanks to our marvellous floor performers. Shirley Harry, Steve Shipley, Alan Day, Colin & Karen Cater, Yael Bebb, and Katie Howson entertained us with songs, tunes, and a monologue - with Yael and Katie each making their first appearance at the club. Excellent emceeing by Charlie Haylock too.

Undeterred by road closures and inclement weather, our incredible audience filled the room, and affirmed the Everyman’s reputation by taking every chance they had to sing their hearts out – a lovely atmosphere to finish the year. We wish you all the best of the season, and we’ll see you next year – on Friday 30 January 2026 – with Pagoda Project: Paul Hutchinson, Karen Wimhurst, and Hannah Cu***ng as our guests.

🎶 What a treat to welcome Narthen to the Everyman for our last event of 2025 - on Friday 28 November. The quartet - Jo Freya, Fi Fraser, Sarah Matthews and Doug Eunson - sing and play songs and tunes that reflect their individual personalities and tastes. From the tradition through to modern times, anything goes, and that material is expressed through vocal harmony and a large variety of instruments. All sing, all play, and their instruments include, soprano sax, clarinet, whistles, fiddles, viola, hammer dulcimer, tenor guitar, diatonic accordion, and hurdy-gurdy. Expect the unexpected from this terrific group.

"these masters of so many musical forms ... gave us a night of real variety and entertainment." - Topsham Folk Club

"With a multi-instrumental lineup, Narthen delivers an astonishing range of sounds that bring humour, charm, and an infectious sense of fun." - Fleece Inn, Bretforton

Huge thanks to Carolyn Robson and Moira Craig for an evening of exceptional unaccompanied singing at the Everyman Folk Club last Friday. Their extensive knowledge of traditional folk songs and ballads was demonstrated by their selection of material, with this Halloween night being filled with shape-shifting, magic, disguise and deception. As well as their enthralling harmony singing, we were enchanted by their solos, and we also enjoyed short readings from the 2006 Tales of Otherness tour by Craig Morgan Robson. A mystical and magical night of Carolyn and Moira’s unmatched vocal unity.

We also had terrific floor spots - with Terence Blacker premiering a new song; Susannah Danby making her debut appearance at the club; serious and comic songs from Malcolm Austen; hilarious monologues from MC Charlie Haylock; a moving tribute to David Robertson by June Thaine singing Colum Sands’ The Night Is Young; and fabulous tunes by multi-instrumentalist and Northumbrian pipe maker, Paul Tabbush.

As always, the Everyman audience took every opportunity to join in with all the choruses – and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone again on Friday 28 November 2025 when our guests are multi-talented quartet, Narthen - Jo Freya, Fi Fraser, Sarah Matthews, Doug Eunson.

What a lively and cheerful start to our new season at the Everyman Folk Club last night with fantastic guests, Damien Barber and Mike Wilson. Rooted in the folk tradition, their choice of material was a tribute to the singers from whom they learned their songs. Damien’s understated concertina playing and beautiful guitar arrangements were perfectly balanced accompaniments to the rich and expressive voices of this superb duo. Damien and Mike’s admirable stagecraft included informative introductions to each song, peppered with joyful badinage. Thank you both for another brilliant evening of “great songs brilliantly sung".

Very well done to all our floor performers for the evening - Graham Schofield, John Clark & Kathy Migdal, Bill Johnston & Sheila Darling, Matthew Robertson, Steve Shipley, and Dave Tricker – who treated us to songs, concertina and melodeon tunes, and well crafted limericks too! We’re also very grateful to Charlie Haylock for his excellent emceeing.

Huge thanks to our cracking audience – it was lovely to see you all, and to enjoy your magnificent chorus singing – of course! See you next time, when we are delighted to welcome Carolyn Robson & Moira Craig to the Everyman on Friday 31 October 2025.

🎶 We're so pleased to be welcoming Damien Barber and Mike Wilson back to open our new season at the Everyman. Each an experienced musician in his own right, their combined knowledge and respect of traditional song shines throughout this duo's performances of their superb arrangements - unaccompanied, and accompanied sensitively by Damien on concertina or deftly played guitar.
