🏬 LOOKING FOR A SHOP IN SCARBOROUGH TOWN CENTRE, Flasgrave or south cliff

There are so many empty shops in Scarborough town centre. Just imagine what we could do for our community if we were given the opportunity to rent one.

We are not asking for something for nothing—we are willing to pay a fair rent.

We are looking for a suitable shop or premises where we can provide a safe and welcoming community space, offer support, distribute essential items and help people struggling with homelessness, mental health difficulties and other challenges.

If you own an empty shop, manage commercial properties or know of somewhere suitable, please get in touch with us.

Let’s bring an empty building back into use and turn it into something positive for the people of Scarborough. 💙

🚨 TODAY’S COMMUNITY BBQ CANCELLED 🚨

Unfortunately, due to today’s weather conditions, we have made the decision to cancel our community meet-and-greet BBQ planned for this afternoon.

We are disappointed, but everyone’s comfort and safety must come first. We will rearrange the BBQ and announce a new date as soon as possible.

Thank you to everyone who planned to attend and continues supporting our community work. This is only a postponement—we will keep creating safe, welcoming spaces where people can meet, talk and support one another.

Please share this update so nobody makes an unnecessary journey.

🚫 Strictly no alcohol or drugs

Don’t forget, guys—we have received no support from organisations or authorities. All the support for our community work has come from ordinary people within our community.

Building this has been a massive challenge, but we will not give up on our vision or our goals. We will keep moving forward and creating a safe, welcoming space where people can meet, talk and support one another.

🚨 Every person sleeping rough in England will be offered accommodation this winter, according to the Prime Minister.

That sounds positive—but my question is: for how long?

We saw a similar response during COVID. People were quickly moved from the streets into accommodation because the Government proved it could be done. But when that emergency response ended, too many people found themselves back on the streets or trapped in temporary and unsuitable accommodation.

A bed for a few nights is not a long-term solution.

The biggest issue we face is not simply getting people indoors—it is the shortage of safe, secure and genuinely affordable long-term housing, alongside proper mental health, addiction and ongoing support.

Where will people go after winter?
How long will the accommodation last?
Will trained support workers be available?
What happens when the funding ends?
How will people be prevented from returning to the streets?

We welcome any genuine action that protects people, but this cannot become another temporary headline. People need stability, support and a real pathway forward—not another revolving door back onto the streets.

🚨 GOING FORWARD – WE WILL KEEP SPEAKING OUT 🚨

As Mental Health Awareness UK continues working at ground level, we are going to uncover more problems affecting people across our communities.

Whatever we discover within our systems and services is not our fault—we are simply showing the reality of what is happening and giving people a voice.

Emergency accommodation is one serious issue that desperately needs investigating and sorting out. Vulnerable people deserve safe accommodation, proper support and suitable safeguarding—not to be placed somewhere and forgotten about.

We will continue listening, documenting what we witness and speaking honestly about the problems people are facing.

🚨 PUBLIC UPDATE 🚨

A housing association approached Squeeky Clean Scarborough Ltd and asked whether we would be interested in taking on a substantial amount of work.

Preparing for that opportunity has cost the business tens of thousands of pounds across this year and last year. This included fleet insurance, public liability and employers’ liability insurance, completing the contractors’ pack and securing an additional cherry picker for the work we were expecting.

After hearing nothing further, I contacted them on Friday. We have now received an email confirming that there is currently no work for us.

So no—it hasn’t cost me just a couple of grand to continue everything throughout the winter months. It has cost me far more than most people realise, alongside the money and time I have personally put into supporting vulnerable and homeless people.

To all the haters and the left-wing critics who constantly judge without knowing the full story—here’s something to put in your pipe and smoke.

Regardless of the setbacks, we move forward. We always have, and we always will. 💙
