🌟 Squeeky Clean Scarborough • Whitby • Filey – Community Awareness Statement

Over the past weeks, I’ve become aware of rumours, accusations, and targeted negativity directed at me and my business. I want to make a clear and transparent statement, not to create conflict, but to bring clarity and peace to our community.

❤️ My Mission

My goal has always been simple:
to lift community spirits, bring people together, support those in hardship, and shine a bit of positivity around Scarborough, Whitby, and Filey.

Everything I’ve done — whether sharing community stories, helping the homeless, or raising awareness — has been done openly and with good intentions.

❗ Recent Accusations

False claims have been circulating, including:

That I am “taking money from the public”

That I “profit from videos”

That I am “racist” or “far-right”

That I should not be trusted

The list goes on!

These claims are untrue and deeply hurtful.
I have never misused donations, and I do not make money from awareness videos. My work has always focused on helping others and inspiring hope.

🛑 This Targeting Needs to Stop

I have faced:

Reports made against my GoFundMe

Personal attacks

A coordinated effort to damage my reputation

Comments aimed at dividing our community

This behaviour does not help anyone — not me, not my business, and not the community we all care about.

🤝 Moving Forward

I remain committed to:

Supporting those in need

Bringing positivity into difficult times

Uniting our towns rather than dividing them

Being open, honest, and transparent in all community work

I ask kindly and respectfully that the targeting, rumours, and misinformation stop.
Let’s refocus our energy on helping one another, not tearing each other down.

1️⃣ Why do you have a problem with me personally?
I’ve supported this community for years — including the homeless and the Rainbow Centre for at least 10 years before you took over — so what exactly is your issue?

2️⃣ Why did you push for the flags to be taken down when the only purpose of them was to lift spirits and bring positivity to the area?

3️⃣ Why don’t you want our community uplifted?
The flags were not political. They were about hope, pride, and bringing people together.

Public Statement – Regarding the Flags

As many people know, the recent removal of the flags in our area has caused upset and frustration within the community. I want to make it clear that I have grown up alongside people of many backgrounds — including my Turkish niece and nephew, and friends from all cultures. Our intention has always been to celebrate community pride, never to divide.

From what we understand, the decision to remove the flags came after concerns were raised about them causing “alarm and distress.” While I don’t agree with that assessment, the matter was handled at council level and was not, in my opinion, a personal decision made by any one individual.

As for the councillors involved, I could name those who took part in the campaign and discussions that ultimately led to the removal of the flags. However, I am choosing not to list individuals publicly, as my aim is not to create further division or hostility. My only intention is to express how disappointed many residents feel about the decision.

I’m drawing a line under this situation now. I think it is a disgrace and I’m saddened that something which brought hope to our local community has been taken down.

To Mr. Battersby — if this landed on your desk, I apologise for any pressure caused. I still don’t know exactly how that decision travelled through the system, so I cannot fully apologise for something I don’t have the full picture on. But I do not believe it was personal.

Let me also make something absolutely clear:
I am not publicly apologising for putting my flag up. I stand by my decision. The flag represented pride and hope for our community, and there was nothing wrong with displaying it.

Going forward, we as a community must come together as strongly as possible. If our councils are not listening, then we must support each other — even small acts like checking on vulnerable neighbours or offering a helping hand. Kindness costs nothing, and it strengthens us all.

Community Update

I wanted to share an update regarding the recent situation involving the 64 British flags I put up using my cherry picker.

After several discussions with North Yorkshire Council, including Karl Battersby, the matter has now been resolved. Although I was initially asked to make a £1,000 payment to “Christmas Live” and issue a public apology, I felt it was more appropriate to support a cause that truly reflects the meaning behind the flags.

We have agreed on a £500 donation to the Green Howards Veterans Association, a charity that I have a great deal of respect for. Once this donation is made, the issue will be formally closed.

My only intention in putting up the flags was to lift people’s spirits and bring a sense of hope and pride to the community. It’s unfortunate that this led to such complications — effectively being invoiced for putting up my own country’s flags — but I’m pleased that we’ve reached a fair outcome.

Update from this morning

I went and spoke with the homeless man who’s currently staying in the caravan. He was genuinely grateful and wanted to thank everyone who donated and helped make it possible.

I also bumped into Dan and sat down with him over a brew and some breakfast. He told me he’s just worn out with people making sly comments behind his back. This awareness work isn’t about judging anyone — it’s about protecting the homeless and reminding people that every one of them was once just like us.
It can happen to anyone. You can have everything today, and it can all be gone tomorrow.

I’ve been out collecting donations today. A lovely woman — who wishes to stay anonymous — has kindly donated boots and clothes.

Squeeky Clean Scarborough – A Message From the Heart 💙

I want to clear something up today because I’ve heard a few rumours going around suggesting I’m “ripping the public off.”

Let me say this honestly: I’ve been running Squeeky Clean Scarborough for 11 years, working across Scarborough, Filey, and Whitby. Do you really think I’d still be in business after all this time if I wasn’t honest and accountable? My reputation is everything.

Every single thing we buy—food, fuel, supplies—is accounted for. I don’t even put half of what I do on camera because it would be too much to film while also running a full-time business. What you see online is the minimum. There are countless unseen acts of support, posts, and videos that never make it out.

I don’t need to take from the public. I’m not taking a wage for any of the community work we do. Everything raised goes back into helping people—homeless individuals, vulnerable people, the elderly, and anyone struggling in our communities.

It’s all about hope.
About lifting each other’s spirits.
About getting back to basics and helping your neighbour when you see them struggling.

What an absolutely amazing donation from this lovely family. The caravan is spotless – they’ve spent the whole weekend cleaning it, bless them.

It’s located safely out of the way and I now have someone staying in it full-time over the winter months.

This individual has done more for the town than most, though people forget that far too easily. He doesn’t drink or smoke, so this setup is ideal for him. Rules are in place, and he will fully respect the caravan.

I’ll be keeping an eye on everything and will keep everyone updated as the days go on.

I honestly can’t thank this generous family enough. I even offered them a free gutter clean around their property on behalf of Squeeky Clean Scarborough.

If the government or council can’t look after us, then we’ll have to stand together.
