These two young doves have recently landed with us at the rescue after being cared for by a wonderful finder while a space opened up. They have been crop-fed formula twice a day and are now confidently feeding on their own, a great sign they’re growing stronger every day!

Next step: they’ll be moving into our aviary once they’re big enough, where they’ll have the space to stretch their wings, build muscle, and practise flying before being released back into the wild. 🏞️

We’re so proud of their progress so far — and grateful to the people who helped them get here.

🕊️ Gull Update! 🕊️

This is the gull that came into our care after being found grounded, water logged, and with remnants of oil on his feathers. After some TLC at the Rescue, he’s now made the journey to Laxey House Bird Rescue, where he’ll continue building his strength in a safe space alongside other gulls.

He’s now part of a little flock, and once they’re all strong enough, they’ll be released together back into the wild, just where they belong. 🐦🌊

Big thanks to Laxey House Bird Rescue - Scunthorpe for giving him the next step towards freedom! 🙌

They may seem ordinary, but pigeons are far more complex than you think. 🕊️

🪶 According to World of Creatures, inside their beaks are tiny magnetic crystals — natural compasses that let them navigate thousands of miles using Earth’s magnetic field.
🪶They hear sounds we can’t, see ultraviolet patterns invisible to us, and fly at speeds over 60 mph.
🪶Pigeons can count, learn patterns, and even grasp basic probabilities.
🪶They form lifelong bonds, raise their chicks with a special “crop milk,” and stay close to humans because we once raised them.
🪶In World War I, a pigeon named Cher Ami saved 194 soldiers with a message tied to her wounded leg.

They’re not pests — they’re brilliant, loyal, and deeply misunderstood. ❤️

This is the beautiful greenfinch who came into our care recently. When he first arrived, he was a bit dull and down on his luck, but we’re thrilled to say he’s doing brilliantly now!

He’s eating like a champ, full of energy, and best of all, his stunning green feathers are really starting to pop! It’s amazing what a bit of rest, proper care, and some TLC can do. 💪✨

We’ll continue to monitor him closely, but it’s looking like he’s well on the road to a full recovery. Fingers crossed it won’t be long before he’s strong enough to be released back into the wild where he belongs. 🌳

We’re running low on newspapers, puppy pads and straw! We use these for most of our wildlife patients, and need changing 1-2 times per day, so as you can imagine, we get through a lot!

If anyone has any they’d like to donate to the rescue, please drop us a message!

Thanks, CapesWildlifeRescue

This young greenfinch was discovered grounded near a chemical factory in Goole, looking weak and out of place. Thankfully, a thoughtful passerby spotted the bird and brought him straight to us. 🌿

Now in our care, the juvenile is safe, warm, and being gently support fed. While there are no obvious injuries, the little one is underweight and still not eating completely on his own. 🪺

We’ll be giving him the time and space he needs to build his strength, with the hope of releasing him back where he belongs — wild and free. 🕊️

This little swift was brought into the rescue after being found grounded and unable to take flight. 🐦

After a thorough examination and some X-rays, we discovered that he has sustained some soft tissue damage to one of its wings — likely the reason he couldn’t get airborne. The good news is that the injury doesn’t appear to be too severe, and with some rest, supportive care, advice from specialists, and time to heal, we’re hopeful for a full recovery. 💪

Swifts are incredible aerial acrobats, spending nearly their entire lives on the wing, so being grounded is extremely serious for them. We’ll be giving this one the best possible chance to return to the skies where it belongs. 🌥️

We’ll keep you updated on his progress 🐦‍⬛💚

This lucky gull came into our care after being found waterlogged, with traces of oil on his feathers and unable to fly. He was in a sorry state, but after some immediate TLC and supportive care, he’s already looking much brighter and stronger. 🤙

Next stop: Laxey House Bird Rescue – Scunthorpe, where he’ll continue his recovery in a spacious aviary, building up the muscle strength he needs to take to the skies again. 🙌
