🏑👟 A Fantastic Weekend of OG Sport!

The annual OG v Girls’ XI Hockey Match returned with an evening full of skill, determination, and plenty of school spirit. The OGs – representing leaving years from 2001 through to 2024 – came out on top after a hard-fought and entertaining game. With great support from the sidelines and post-match celebrations at the local pub, it was a brilliant reminder of the camaraderie and enduring Giggleswick spirit. We’re already looking forward to welcoming the OGs back in January for the Boys’ XI clash!

Meanwhile, our alumni runners were flying the flag at the Thames Hare & Hounds Alumni Cross-Country Race on Wimbledon Common. Covering the tough 5-mile course, every runner put in a fantastic performance, helping Giggleswick to finish 17th out of 32 schools – a superb result against tough competition. A huge well done to all who took part!

💙 What a weekend of Giggleswick community spirit.

Come and visit the iconic Giggleswick School Chapel.

The Chapel is opening its doors to visitors on Sunday 21st September.

The day will start with a school chapel service at 10am which members of the public are welcome to attend (pre-booking required for the service), and from 11am volunteers will be on hand to show guests around and answer questions about this inspiring building. At intervals, there will be musical performances from members of the school community, including performances on the Henry Willis organ.

With its impressive copper dome and stunning interior, the Chapel is an iconic landmark that dominates the surrounding countryside. The Chapel was a gift to Giggleswick School from Walter Morrison of Malham, built in 1897 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. It is a rare example of a building in which every detail, including building, decoration and furniture, has been designed and completed in perfect sympathy under the direction of the same hand - T.G Jackson, a leading architect of the time.

So come along and relive the magic of the Chapel.

| Rugby in a Snowstorm ❄️🏉

We’re heading back to 1937 for a memorable rugby clash between Giggleswick and Durham School — played in true Northern style: during a snowstorm!

The Giggleswick XV had travelled overnight and kicked off early in snowy conditions at Durham. Despite the freezing weather and slippery ground, the match pressed on — with Durham eventually winning by a goal and a try.

The heavy snow made accurate play nearly impossible, and despite determined efforts in the second half, Giggleswick were kept at bay by a resolute Durham defence.

Props to Giggleswick's best forwards on the day: J. Heaton, H. Hastings-Smith and M.J. Murgatroyd — and to F.R. Spencer who served well at the back.

An icy day, a hard-fought match, and a real slice of school rugby history, despite the disappointing result. 🏉

Our thanks go to our former Development Director Andrew Beales for sharing this cutting.
