Manuel Darquart joined us live from his London studio for a stacked 2.5 hour Masterclass focused on how he produces his super melodic early 90s Dream House and Italo House sound.

Full studio tour, a brand new Dream House track being written from scratch, loads of plug in recommendations, artist development tips and more....

In this clip, we see Manny D taking us through his composition process to produce a sublime Dream House track. Starting with just a kick, we have drum programming tips, chord sequences, bassline action and lots more.

Chris Todd from Crazy P joined the How I Program crew this week to deliver an inspiring 3 hour masterclass focussing on how he creates music using a variety of instruments and synths. He created a brand new track from scratch using an acapella from an old Crazy P track and then proceeded to wow us all with his insane multi instrumentalist skills.

He also gave us a tour of the Crazy P studio and answered a ton of questions throughout the session. Once in a lifetime stuff.

London based Kiwi Louis Anderson-Rich is Manuel Darquart - Producer of amazing records for Wolf, Semi Delicious, Planet Trip and Coastal Haze. He’s also a barnstorming DJ with bookings all over the world.

Production wise, of course we’re huge fans. Bold, uplifting melodies. Italian Dream House vibes. Late 80s tinged groovers. Party music but with depth, soul and musical panache.

On Tuesday April 15th, we will be taking a deep dive into the sound of Manny D. Studio tour, fave plug ins, musical techniques used, production techniques used, jibes and japes abound.

joined us for an extended Masterclass and it was great to catch up as he's been super busy since he last joined us in September 2020!

We got deep into loads of plug ins on Ableton plus the Wavetable synth which is very versatile. New material previews, some great artist development chat and advice, loads of great production questions being answered and a whole heap of inspiration for the group.

In this clip, Adam shows us how to create bouncey Psy stabs using the Ableton Wavetable synth. His knowledge and mastery of it was second to none - you need to see the full thing to see how it ends up sounding!

I’m sure any producer out there trying to finish off a release against the clock can feel my pain!

It’s great to make progress with tracks but it’s slightly frustrating when it’s solely the product of avoidance lol. I was only meant to be ‘checking’ which would be the b side track!

Having said that though it is a good release of pressure and I feel more able to work on THE track again.

Is anyone else trying to finish off a track/release right now? How’s it going?

HiP Producer Of The Year: ZOiD

Congratulations to our very own resident jazz and techno combiner Daniel Jacobson aka who’s been such a POWERHOUSE this year, we had to create a ‘producer of the year’ category to recognise the quality of his music and insane workrate.

Daniel began the year with ‘4 aphex guitar covers by ZOiD’ in January and has released a huge amount of music since including name your price comp ‘2024 Streamers’, the huge ‘Butterflies’ collab with Nigerian artist (which loved so much, he’s put it in the Best Electronic Music Of 2024 round up) and lots more goodies if you look hard enough.

He’s just released ‘ZOiD Vs Musicians Vol 2’ in glorious translucent purple vinyl. It’s an amazing album which fuses live instruments, jazz and electronic club music in a way which hasn’t been done before.

You need this album in your life!

Very happy to announce our December Masterclass guest will be Newcastle based Producer, DJ, Label Boss, Promoter, Project Manager (and more) Geoff Kirkwood aka

Geoff will join us live on Thursday Dec 19th and the session will be focused on the importance of community, raising awareness of your musical output, building your own audience and making key connections in the music scene. 

He’s involved in many exciting projects including which is presenting bbacts like Caribou, Gerd Janson and Skream at the King Street Social Club in North Shields (a traditional working class English social club setting).

As well as being part of the team managing ‘Bringing creativity, culture, innovation and entrepreneurship to a formerly derelict heritage building in the heart of North Shields Fish Quay’.

As well as all that, Geoff’s a highly experienced music artist playing regularly at some of the worlds best clubs, releasing on quality labels like Live At Robert Johnson and presenting radio shows for Rinse FM. He’s done the Essential Mix, RA Podcast, plays regularly at P Bar etc.

So he’s got a lot to share with us about how to build a WORLD around what you’re doing. That’s surely the goal for most artists in a 2024 landscape right?

Huge congratulations to ‘day one’ alumni aka Mat from Bristol who’s just released his DEBUT album entitled ‘Reel Thoughts Of Life The Universe And The Void’.

After many months of writing, gestation and pushing his artistic boundaries, it’s a proud moment for all of us to see Mats hard work come to fruition.

Lots of the tracks were submitted to the group mentoring live track feedback sessions with and Mat took the groups feedback on board (well sometimes at least :)

Shades of dub, dubstep, techno, electronica, trip hop, ambient, IDM and lots more gets put in the blender. At 18 tracks long, it’s a weighty piece of music but it flows well.

Mats been part of our group mentoring community since August 2020. In fact he was the FIRST ever person to join the group mentoring tier!

From an idea borne out of necessity during lockdown to now being a company with over 100 people in the group since last October.

The biggest achievement by far has been CREATING FRIENDSHIPS between people of all backgrounds.

I’m so grateful to EVERYONE who’s contributed to what we’re doing. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH.
