Our June meeting took place outdoors so we could take advantage of a beautiful midsummer evening while learning about the history of the fields above Forge Dam and the cluster of buildings around Brook House. More information and a summary of the meeting can be found on the Fulwood History Group website: https://www.fulwoodhistory.uk/minutes-of-discussions/3718/

Here's news of a another history walk led by a member of our group - no booking necessary - just turn up:
'...it will cover part of Glossop Road, St Mark's Crescent, Broomfield Road, and a small part of Beech Hill Road. This area was originally labelled simply as Broomfield in the early days of Broomhill. Several of the properties that existed back in the day were of course demolished to make way for the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and also for hospital accommodation, but there is plenty to hear about even so. Amongst other stories I have unearthed information about steel manufacturers - both English and German, houses with two addresses, mining engineers and how the Rutland Hotel started. Representatives of Steel, Peech and Tozer make their annual appearance(!) There's no need to book, just turn up and let's hope that the weather holds for us.

The National Centre for English Cultural Tradition (NATCECT). Local historians are probably familiar with Sheffield's City Archives but it's less likely they've come across the NATCECT archives held at Sheffield University Library on Weston Bank. This collection is 'A Unique Folklore and Folk Life Resource' and includes a great deal of material collected locally over the last century. To find out more, here's a link to the collection https://archives.shef.ac.uk/agents/corporate_entities/58
To arrange a visit, here's the email address for the Special Collections archive : [email protected] and this page gives details of how to book a visit: https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/library/special-collections-heritage-and-archives/use-our-collections # -a-visit
