New Community 6-a-Side Football League Launching in Sheffield
A new 6-a-side football league is set to launch at Woodbourn Road in Sheffield, in partnership with Leisure United. The league will take place on the venue’s high-quality 3G pitch and aims to encourage community participation in regular, accessible sport.

Fixtures will be held on Monday evenings between 7pm and 9pm, with free entry available until April. After that, teams will pay a weekly match fee of £35.

Organisers say the league is open to players of all experience levels, with a focus on fair play, inclusion, and community spirit. Qualified referees will officiate matches, and efforts will be made to maintain a welcoming environment for all participants.

Leisure Leagues, which operates the programme, notes that profits from its leagues are donated to charitable causes. The aim is to use sport as a way to support community wellbeing and get more people in Sheffield involved in regular physical activity.

Sheffield City Council has published its latest City Centre Access and Movement Plan, setting out proposals for improving travel around the city centre over the next 15 years. A key part of the plan includes further pedestrianisation of streets to enhance public spaces.

One of the main proposals is to extend the current pedestrianised section of Cambridge Street. The street has already been made pedestrian-only between Pinstone Street and Cross Burgess Street. According to the council, this has helped to revitalise the area, transforming it into a more vibrant space for retail, leisure, and hospitality businesses.

The council now aims to pedestrianise the remaining section of Cambridge Street — from Cross Burgess Street to Barker’s Pool and Division Street — with the goal of improving safety and accessibility for people walking and spending time in the area.

The council will also be holding drop-in events across the city where people can speak to staff, ask questions, and provide feedback:
