Not a bad start to the working week!
There should be some brighter spells around Sheffield this morning, although cloud is expected to build at times as the day goes on.
There is a chance of some light rain around the Pennines, but Sheffield itself should see plenty of dry weather and some sunny intervals.
Temperatures could reach around 21°C with fairly light winds.

🚨 UPPER HANOVER STREET CLOSED AFTER COLLISION
A heads-up for anyone travelling through this part of Sheffield this morning as of 5am this morning.
South Yorkshire Police say Upper Hanover Street is CLOSED following a road traffic collision.
The closure is at the crossroads with Glossop Road for traffic travelling towards St Mary’s Gate.
🚗 Motorists are being advised to avoid the area
↪️ Use alternative routes where possible
If that’s part of your usual Monday morning journey, it’s worth allowing a little extra time.
💷 MAN ORDERED TO REPAY £91,438 AFTER RECEIVING £300,245 BY MISTAKE
Imagine checking your account and finding more than £300,000 that shouldn’t be there… 😳
A Sheffield man who received £300,245 because of an error involving an online marketplace has now been ordered to repay £91,438.
South Yorkshire Police say Simon Jackson knew the money had been paid to him in error.
Police say he then moved money between accounts and spent some of it on items including:
💎 Jewellery
🏎️ A high-performance car engine
👜 A designer bag
He has now been given THREE MONTHS to pay the £91,438 confiscation order.
🚔 TWO MORE ARRESTS IN HIGH GREEN INVESTIGATION
There’s been another development in the police investigation into suspected explosive substances at a property in High Green.
South Yorkshire Police have made TWO further arrests.
👨 A man in his 60s
👩 A woman in her 50s
Both were arrested and have since been bailed while enquiries continue.
Police say suspected chemicals, drugs and weapons were recovered during searches connected with the investigation on Mapplebeck Road.
Importantly for people living nearby, officers say there is NO LONGER believed to be a risk to neighbouring properties or residents.

What a start to the season for the Sheffield Steelers!
The Steelers have moved to the TOP of the Elite League after a thumping:

🏬 END OF AN ERA ON FARGATE
Another familiar Sheffield city-centre name is disappearing.
TG Jones formerly WH Smith is set to close its long-running Fargate store on:
📅 9 January 2027
The store has been part of Sheffield city centre for more than 50 YEARS.
The planned closure forms part of the retailer’s wider restructuring programme.
For generations of Sheffield shoppers, that’s going to be another big change to the look of Fargate.

🚗 ROCKINGHAM STREET ENFORCEMENT STARTS TODAY
Another important one for drivers.
Sheffield City Council is beginning enforcement TODAY of the no-entry restriction on Rockingham Street at its junction with West Street.
🚌 Buses can travel through
🚲 Cycles can travel through
🚗 Other motorists who ignore the restriction could now receive a penalty charge notice.
So if you’re driving through Sheffield city centre and usually head that way…
Don’t just follow the car in front. 😂
🚋 THE MYSTERIOUS BIRLEY LANE WELL IS STILL CAUSING TRAM PROBLEMS
It’s not every day a tram disruption involves a VICTORIAN WELL OR MINESHAFT. 😳
But here we are…
The structure discovered beneath the tram tracks at Birley Lane continues to cause disruption to Sheffield’s Blue Supertram route.
Trams remain unable to operate between:
🚋 Gleadless Townend
and
🚋 Halfway
Engineers are continuing to investigate the structure itself and the surrounding ground.
🚌 Replacement buses are operating for affected passengers.
Hopefully they can get to the bottom of it soon…
⚖️ TWO MEN JAILED AFTER £400,000 DRUG OPERATION DISMANTLED
Two men have been jailed following a South Yorkshire Police investigation into three drug lines operating mainly around Upperthorpe.
Police say experts estimated that the operation supplied around £400,000 worth of crack co***ne and he**in over a ten-month period.
Ahmed Ahmed has been jailed for:
⚖️ 7 years and 7 months
Kardo Ali has been jailed for:
⚖️ 3 years
The sentences follow the police investigation which dismantled the three drug lines.
⚽ WILDER: TOO EARLY FOR LONG-TERM JUDGEMENTS
It’s been a difficult few games for Sheffield United.
The Blades were beaten:
⚽ STOKE CITY 2–1 SHEFFIELD UNITED
The result means United have now lost THREE consecutive matches in all competitions.
Manager Chris Wilder says it is too early to make long-term judgements about his side.
He also says his players have to deal with the negative reaction that inevitably comes following a run of disappointing results.

🏠 WARNING AFTER BOGUS TRADESPEOPLE TARGET SHEFFIELD RESIDENTS
South Yorkshire Police are warning people to be vigilant following THREE recent reports involving bogus tradespeople.
Police say elderly or vulnerable residents have been targeted.
In one case, people claiming to be roofers reportedly:
🏠 Carried out work
💷 Increased the price
🚪 Left before finishing the job
Fortunately, the victim’s family was able to cancel the cheque before the money was taken.
It’s another reminder to check who you’re allowing to carry out work at your home — and to keep an eye out for older or vulnerable relatives and neighbours too. ❤️
🗳️ WALKLEY BY-ELECTION RESULT
Labour and Co-operative candidate Hannah Cawley has won the Walkley ward by-election.
The result was:
🔴 Hannah Cawley Labour and Co-operative: 2,315 votes
🟢 Seb Van Bilsen Irias Green Party: 1,249 votes
Turnout was 28.18%.
The by-election took place on Thursday 17 September.
🏚️ CONCERNS OVER CHILDREN ACCESSING DERELICT FULWOOD HOUSE
Further action could be taken over security at the derelict Fulwood House site.
Sheffield Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust says it is considering what further action may be required following reports of CHILDREN accessing the building.
The Trust says security and public safety at the site are being considered.
Definitely one to remind youngsters about…
Derelict buildings might look interesting to explore, but they can be extremely dangerous.
⚽ THREE SHEFFIELD FIGURES NAMED LIFETIME PRESIDENTS OF WEDNESDAY
Sheffield Wednesday have appointed THREE Lifetime Presidents.
The honorary roles have been awarded to:

🔵 Clive Betts
Wednesday say the appointments recognise their long-standing links with the club and the city.

🚶 NEW ECCLESALL ROAD CROSSING COULD BE ON THE WAY
Plans for a new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing on Ecclesall Road are currently out for consultation.
The proposed crossing would be close to the junction with Botanical Road.
It forms part of the wider A625 Safer Roads scheme.
People can have their say on the plans until:
