For Fans of drone and experimental music
Thom Padmore is part curator, part creator, whose obsession with drones, tones and immersive musics stretches back, oh, a decade and a half when he was booking shows that coerced surprisingly large audiences out to see the likes of Bardo Pond in the UK.
Those were, indeed, the days. But Thom ain't no fair-weather friend when it comes to giving up the overwhelming mind-and-body sense check. Oh no. His show, if you can even really call it a "show", Slow Wave Sound is a kind of experiment in broadcasted hypnotones.
It's an accompaniment to his quarterly event that happens in the northern industrial city of Sheffield (home to Cabaret Voltaire and Clock DVA, naturally). Which just gives it a kind of paradoxical edge somewhere between beautiful sense retreat and concrete hyperreality.
Something we all need to bathe in, at least once a month on NQRA.
