While we're between releases, here are a couple of events that are happening in Sheffield in the next few weeks, and with which the label is involved:
Firstly, there's a gig taking place on Saturday 25th April at Mary Street Live in Sheffield (95 Mary Street, S1 4RT); it's billed as "Neighbourhood Watch #2" and features live music from Ayusp, Brown Fang, and Curtain Twitcher, with DJ sets from me (Jon Do It Thissen), and Alimakavelli.
To make it all extra groovy and trippy, there'll be oil projections from Mad Hatters Lightshow.
There's a bar! Tickets are £9.50 - It'll be more on the door.
Three top bands, and especially good to see Curtain Twitcher opening up the night. Their recent LP "Leap The Dips" has received rave reviews from the electronic music press. Full disclosure: the band are made up of two-thirds of the band "Surreal Appeal" for whom we released a 7" single and 10" EP back in 2021. Curtain Twitcher are less pop, and more squelchy electronica though.
Then on Thursday 7th May at Crookes Social Club (Mulehouse Road, S10 1TD), there's a launch event for a new book on the history of independent music in Sheffield. "Groovy, Laid Back & Nasty" is by local author Daniel Dylan Wray, and I can confirm that it's an essential read even if you have only a passing interest in the local music scene. Tickets are £6, and I believe that copies of the book will be on sale at the event.
The launch event will feature DDW in an interview/Q&A session, and I'll be popping up to spin some Sheffield related records in the august company of other DJs from Warp Records, Memory Dance, and Gut Level. Our pal Adrian Flanagan will be there too, with his Acid Klaus Bingo Bonanza (Entry included in ticket price). Prizes to be won. Nonsense to be had!
Hope to see some of you at either or both events - please come and say hello!
