Femetalism

Femetalism UK music blog supporting underground music and positively promoting women in rock & metal. Finally back after a 7-year hiatus. https://femetalism.bandcamp.com/

Femetalism is and always will be a small part-time personal project about which we are very passionate. With Femetalism we are working hard to improve the “Femme” metal space and share and promote women in rock and metal from a more gender-neutral position; moving away from traditional stereotypes and assumptions associated with the male gaze and focusing on portraying a more authentic and diverse

representation of these musicians. While we do primarily feature female artists, we do support ALL underground metal and alternative music and regularly feature bands of all genders and identities. You can still download Forged in Stone and Steel - a 2-part compilation featuring a great selection of underground and unsigned music that is available Free from Bandcamp.

🔮 Introducing Mystic Tea Party

I absolutely love learning about new bands, both locally and more internationally and Mystic Tea Party crossed my desk at just the right time this week.

🇦🇺 Hailing from Melbourne, this genre-blurring duo Mystic Tea Party have just released their mesmerising new single “The Looking Glass”, and it’s a must-listen for fans of dark, cinematic soundscapes.

🎧The Looking Glass is an electronic requiem for identity lost, a track that captures that surreal moment when you no longer recognise the person staring back at you. Blending elements of alt-pop, trip-hop, industrial rock, and Avant-electronica, this release marks their most experimental and emotionally raw work to date.

🔮Fronted by the lyrically vulnerable Blume, and produced by guitarist and sound architect Sebastian, Mystic Tea Party craft an immersive world where sound and storytelling collide. Think Portishead meets David Lynch, strange, haunting, and beautifully cinematic.

✨ Since debuting in 2023, this self-made duo has been steadily building a global following, known for their DIY ethos, immersive visuals, and evocative song writing. Every element, from production to styling, is created by the band themselves.

📀 Their debut EP is planned for later this year, and “The Looking Glass” gives a powerful glimpse of what’s to come.

What. A. Final.

We had an absolute blast at the Metal 2 the Masses Sheffield 2025 Final last weekend five killer finalists, a stacked lineup of guest bands, and one hell of a crowd.

Although you've probably already heard, we’re absolutely buzzing to say the winners were the phenomenal ThunarWülf who blew the roof off with their thunder-charged blend of folk and metal. They’ll be heading to Bloodstock Open Air to represent Sheffield, and we couldn’t be more excited for them!

Shout out to the other amazing finalists Firmament UK Soul Grief Descendancy and Echoes of Obsidian, every single one smashed it and made it a night to remember.

Also hats off to the guest bands who rounded out the day: Aonia, Deformation of Man, Kilonova, IL and the mighty Hecate Enthroned - what a lineup!

Here are some of the photos we managed to capture across the day of the finalist, snapshots of an incredible event.

We’re already counting down Bloodstock now!

We’re really looking forward to heading to Sidney & Matilda tomorrow afternoon for a seriously exciting gig - Ask My Bull and Bovidae are hitting the stage and it’s set to be a good one!

Ask My Bull are a Manchester-based three-piece who bring a huge, electrified sound. Think raging saxophone, thundering distorted bass, and intricate, driving drum grooves. Their music is a wild fusion - the energy of punk, the danceability of drum’n’bass, and the nuance of jazz, all wrapped up into something totally cinematic and exhilarating.

Joining them are Sheffield’s own Bovidae, a progressive instrumental quartet blending heavy metal, classical and jazz into a sound that’s as intense as it is intricate. Praised for their complex time signatures, genre-defying style, and relentless energy, Bovidae have been making serious waves and their latest single 'Clappands' is out now on all streaming platforms.

Tickets are just £8 advance - doors open at 2PM.
Come down early and join us for an afternoon of incredible live music!

What a great night we had at ROCK CITY last night seeing the fab Lacuna Coil supported by Blind Channel 🖤🤘

Early doors so mad dash to get there from Sheffield but we made it and had a great view.

Lacuna Coil were fantastic. We worked out it's 10 years since we last saw them which actually blew out minds! Great set list with some classics alongside some of their new, heavier stuff! Loved the branded jumpsuits and face paint! 👻 It was great fun! At least we don't have to wait as long to see them next time as they are playing BOA 25!

Accessibility

I had pre-arranged accessible access when I bought the tickets which was a very easy process and they were super helpful. On the night we arrived and made ourselves known to the door staff. We were meant to arrive at 5.45 but didn't get there until 6.15 but they showed us in, sorted the seat and I managed to get a great view from the balcony. Very lovely to be honest and it's very rare with venues to feel that way. Two slight issues ... Seat was so uncomfortable and small, I couldn't keep myself on it, I kept sliding off 🤦‍♀️. No toilets on the balcony and there was no way I could get to the main one, down the stairs and right through and across the crowd to the side of the stage!?!? Bit bonkers really but didn't ruin the evening.

A great night all in all!

Emma and Craig 🖤🤘
