At our last meeting Courtside attended and were unable to give us any answers, Toby Mallinson was kind enough to approach them after the meeting and here are the questions and responses. Disappointing to say the least… what are your thoughts?
We will work with Courtside and Tramlines to ensure as much of the site remains open to the public as possible for the duration of the set up and set down period.
Questions asked:
Is there any mention in the contract regarding how Courtside relates to Tramlines?
From the start of our discussions with Courtside, working closely with key on site stakeholders including Tramlines, Sheffield Cycling for All as well as Depot Bakery, Age UK, British Cycling, Access Sport and others was highlighted as vitally important. This formed part of the procurement, to ensure that outcomes and outputs were complimentary and not competing, this position hasn’t changed and has been reflected accordingly within the contract.
Is Courtside expected to remain open during Tramlines?
The opening date is still to be confirmed. There have been some delays, understandable for a build of this scale. We are working to get an updated timeline from Courtside and they will share this when they are in a position to do so. We will work with Courtside and Tramlines to ensure that as much of the hub can be open before/and after the festival, depending on their opening date.
Clearly the any protracted closure of the new venue just after it is projected to open would be unwelcome.
What are the plans for opening in relation to Tramlines on an ongoing basis?
It is important that, at least, the new MUGA remains accessible throughout.
Yes, from the start of the conversations, the requirement to minimise the closure of the MUGA before and after Tramlines was highlighted as important and included in the procurement specification. For the weekend and a few days prior to and after the actual festival the MUGA will need to be closed as this forms part of the main ingress/egress route for Tramlines. This was the same for the former MUGA area as this location and tramlines set up hasn’t changed.
