Hit Holmedale @ Sherwood Forest Fishery for the open on Sunday. Peg 14 was my home for the day. Turned out to be a funny old day, plenty of fish around but couldn’t get them to settle. Just gradually picked the odd fish off long on the deck and shallow. Managed to snare a few down the edge late on to win the section with 66lb.

Five bits of kit I never leave at home when pole fishing

There’s a lot of tackle that looks good on the shelf but never really earns its keep on the bank. These five aren’t like that.

They’re the bits that make my life easier, help me put more fish in the net, and give me confidence from the first put-in to the last lift-out.

I’ve been guilty of overpacking, but if I turned up with nothing but my pole, some bait, and these five items, I’d still fancy my chances.
