My first time at the Boulevard last night. In fact, I reckon, only the third time in my life I have visited the fair city of Wigan. Great venue and five excellent bands. This is the ever dependable Vomit going down a storm.

A week ago I’d never heard of the GoatHill Clippers. Today I made a 140 mile round trip to attend their album launch on a disused airfield in remotest North Lincs. Think if Johnny Moped fronted Swell Maps doing a set of Gang of Four covers. Then think even better than that! If you think Chairs Missing was Wire’s best LP this is right up your street. CD or download from Bandcamp and expect to see them in Safety Pin soon. New favourite band.

I had no intention of watching Gina Birch but I needed a sit down. Fantastically half baked. People were walking out and songs were greeted with silence. I loved it. Probably the most punk thing of the weekend. I will have to get her in Safety Pin.

I missed half of the set by Dirt Box Disco (officially the greatest rock’n’roll band in the world) and this is why. Dummy Toys. All the way from China. Boundless energy. Sorry, the issue with their 7” is long sold out.
