TWINNING FRIENDS FOR 75 YEARS
Sheffield and the city of Bochum in Germany have been twinned for 75 years, this year. To celebrate, and to inform residents of the history of the twinning, Bochum recently brought Sheffield into its own city centre.
A space known as the ‘Sheffield Inn’ was unveiled in the city. The pop-up venue showcased information about Sheffield including artwork showcasing iconic Sheffield buildings and a display case with exhibits from the 75 years of friendship.
Sheffield’s Lord Mayor, Coun Safiya Saeed, visited the German city, and the pop-up shop. She said: “Both Sheffield and Bochum share a rich industrial heritage, having grown to prominence through the development of our coal and steel industries. This common ground laid the foundation for a strong and meaningful partnership. Over the years, we have exchanged official greetings, hosted regular visits from delegations, and engaged in numerous cultural, educational, and economic exchanges.
“Let us celebrate this milestone with joy and optimism, as we look forward to a future filled with shared achievements and lasting bonds.”
