🌐 Beware of Mental Health Misinformation Online! 🧠🚫

Thousands of influencers on platforms like TikTok are spreading misleading or outright false mental health advice — sometimes unknowingly, sometimes just for likes, follows, or product sales. Experts warn that:

šŸ”¹ Normal emotions are being wrongly labeled as disorders
šŸ”¹ Misused psychological terms are confusing the public
šŸ”¹ Complex conditions like depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety are oversimplified
šŸ”¹ Unproven ā€œquick fixesā€ are being promoted as substitutes for real therapy
šŸ”¹ Harmful content may discourage people from seeking professional help

Mental health is serious — and treating it like a social media trend can do real damage. Always consult certified professionals and avoid self-diagnosing based on viral videos. Let's choose facts over hype and empathy over algorithms. šŸ’¬šŸ’š

Manchester Museum, one of the UK’s oldest institutions, has been named European Museum of the Year 2024, becoming the first university museum to win this prestigious award. Judges praised the museum for its innovative curatorial work, commitment to community engagement, and its bold stance in confronting colonial legacies.

Home to ancient Egyptian mummies and one of the world’s rarest amphibians—the variable harlequin toad—the museum reopened in 2023 after a Ā£15 million transformation. The updated museum includes a groundbreaking South Asia Gallery, co-curated with members of Manchester’s South Asian diaspora, and showcases stories beyond traditional colonial narratives.

Director Esme Ward emphasized that the museum now prioritizes social inclusion, climate awareness, and education. It serves as the headquarters for Pinc College, which supports neurodivergent students, and houses an environmental and social justice hub on its top floor. Conservation efforts, such as toad breeding, further reflect its ecological commitment.

The museum made headlines in 2023 by returning 174 sacred objects to Australia’s Anindilyakwa people, setting a powerful example of cultural repatriation. It openly acknowledges its foundations in empire and racism and uses that acknowledgment to promote healing and dialogue.

Though some critics label its approach ā€œwoke,ā€ Ward remains unapologetic, stating that the museum's role is to offer multiple perspectives, not to dictate what people should think. The award brings no money, but a Henry Moore sculpture symbolizing respect, vision, and future possibilities. Celebrations are already underway at the museum.

New Zealand’s successful ban on mobile phones in schools has sparked debate in the UK, with growing pressure on Sir Keir Starmer to adopt a similar approach. New Zealand’s education minister Erica Stanford reported overwhelmingly positive results from the ban, including increased student engagement, reduced cyberbullying, and more social interaction. Some UK officials argue that not all schools ban phones and want stricter policies, while others believe the current rules are enough. New Zealand is even considering banning social media for under-16s. The policy has been widely praised by students and educators, though concerns about accessibility and student needs remain.

The UK is facing a higher-than-usual chance of a hot summer this year, according to the Met Office. Following the sunniest and driest spring in over 100 years, temperatures are expected to rise above average between June and August. There's a 2.3 times greater likelihood of warmer weather, with the potential for more hot days and warm nights. Climate change, marine heatwaves, and global trends are all contributing factors. While rainfall and wind are likely to remain average, more intense summer storms are also possible.
