It's been quite a while (last autumn?) since I (re)introduced you to the person behind HD8 Life.

And, since then, we've had quite a lot of new followers, so it feels like time to show my face again (argh!) and let you all know a little bit about me...

I'm Erin, hello!

I live in Shelley and, by background I'm a marketing and business professional, but I'm also a mum of three who juggles the general mess of everyday life like everyone else.

Some folks might remember me from Whistlestop Valley, where I spent nearly six years - starting as Marketing Manager and eventually running the place as CEO - before going freelance in 2023. That experience of building a local business from the inside is a big part of why HD8 Life exists.

I started HD8 Life as an Instagram page in August 2024 because I wanted somewhere honest, collaborative and community-first to celebrate our patch of West Yorkshire. It became a Community Interest Company in June 2025, which means any profit is legally reinvested back into the community. I committed to running HD8 Life full time at the start of 2026.

A few things about me that have absolutely nothing to do with any of that:

I grew up in Worsbrough Dale and Dodworth in Barnsley, but life has taken me to London, Kent, Sussex, Connecticut, Singapore, and Tallinn (that last one was a foreign exchange when I was at drama school).

I dislike tea and coffee, but hot chocolate and iced chocolate are a completely different matter.

I just do not understand matcha or Aperol Spritz, and I've simply stopped trying 🤣

My guilty pleasure playlist is essentially 1992 - Sophie B Hawkins, Crowded House and Jon Secada on repeat - and I'm totally unashamed of that despite being an indie/alternative nerd at heart.

My pet peeves are misplaced apostrophes and drivers who don't give a thank you wave when you've let them out 😬

So, if you're new here, or even if you're not, welcome. Please feel free to spill the beans on your guilty pleasures and pet peeves so I don't have to carry those confessions alone...

Can you help Tracey at Scissett Farmers Market reach her goal of getting some proper signage for the shop? Which, incidentally, is moving to the other side of the mill (not road-facing) from 27 June.
