Join us today for a fantastic day celebrating classic vehicles, with a great display of classic cars alongside our collection of historic buses. Whether you're a transport enthusiast, a classic car lover, or just looking for a great family day out, there's something for everyone.

We're open 10.00am until 4:00pm, so there's still plenty of time to come along, explore the museum, chat with our volunteers, and enjoy everything the day has to offer.

The museum will be packed with historic vehicles, friendly faces and plenty to enjoy throughout the day.

The oldest surviving Gresley-designed locomotive is back where it belongs.

After an extensive overhaul, GNR Class N2 No. 1744 made its return to traffic today on the North Norfolk Railway. The return forms part of the Gresley 150 celebrations, marking 150 years since the birth of Sir Nigel Gresley.

A fitting return for a remarkable survivor.

The Aycliffe & District Bus Preservation Society is delighted to invite you to our annual Newton Aycliffe Running Day on **Saturday 8th August 2026.

Join us for a fantastic day celebrating the rich history of buses and public transport, with a wonderful variety of preserved and visiting vehicles on display and in operation throughout the day. Whether you're a dedicated enthusiast, a lover of local history, or simply looking for a great family day out, there will be plenty to see and do.

One of the highlights of the day will be our FREE heritage bus rides, giving visitors the chance to experience travel from a bygone era whilst exploring Newton Aycliffe and the surrounding area. Alongside the buses, there will be stalls, displays, refreshments, opportunities to visit the museum, and plenty of chances to meet the volunteers who work hard to preserve these important pieces of our transport heritage.

Events such as Running Day are only possible thanks to the support of our members, volunteers, visitors and supporters, and we would love to welcome both familiar faces and first-time visitors to what promises to be a memorable day.

So mark the date in your diary, invite your friends and family, and come along to help us celebrate the past, present and future of bus preservation.
