Eat-sip-unwind Willow new bottomless brunch from the 10th of October 🥂

We had a fantastic time at Willow for bottomless brunch! The atmosphere is beautiful - light, modern and full of those relaxed Mediterranean vibes. It feels like a little escape from the usual, right in the middle of Telford.

The food was centred around sharing plates, fresh, flavourful and well presented. Our personal highlight was the baked beef & pork meatballs.

Drinks-wise, the fizz & beer kept coming at a perfect pace (big shoutout to the staff for being so attentive without hovering), and there were some spritz options too if you fancy mixing it up.

We were genuinely excited to check out in Telford. They’re clearly aiming high - investing in the space, creating a great atmosphere, and building a menu that blends classic Southern BBQ with fun, family-friendly twists.

There’s loads of choice, from smoked brisket and ribs to waffles, wings, and over-the-top shakes. Add in things like a kids’ cinema room, outdoor area, and an open chef’s bar, and it feels like they’re trying to be more than just another chain restaurant. The bar has plenty of screens and can imagine it would be a worthy spot to enjoy the sport with friends.

We have to say the service was amazing, A big shoutout to Freya who looked after us throughout our visit.

All in all, it looks like it could become a proper go-to spot for Telford! (Invite)

: Small Plates, Big Charm on Wyle Cop

Perched halfway up Shrewsbury’s famously independent Wyle Cop, Dill is a welcome new addition to town. Housed in the former Wyle Blue building, returning visitors will recognize the stunning courtyard and garden tucked behind—a sun-drenched haven perfect for drinks or dining with friends.

Dill’s concept centres around small sharing plates, a trend often found in city hotspots but still a fresh proposition for Shropshire. Its menu is inviting and cleverly curated, with plenty to tempt across a variety of tastes.

What We Tried

• 🍅 Tomato & Onion Salad
• 🌶 Padron Peppers (a personal tapas essential)
• 🍄 Mushroom Croquette
• 🧀 Jamón Serrano, Manchego & Honey
• 🍗 Chicken Pinxto
• 🧄 Garlic Prawns (a standout dish)
• 🥔 Crispy New Potatoes with Dill Crème Fraîche
• 🍕 Pizzettas: Garlic & Parsley; Nduja, Mascarpone & Hot Honey

Every plate was enjoyable, but the garlic and parsley prawns were truly memorable—succulent, fragrant, and cooked to perfection. The padron peppers also brought comfort and familiarity, striking that essential balance of smoky, salty, and crisp.

Cocktails didn’t quite hit the mark, but service was attentive and friendly throughout. With a solid selection of dishes at fair prices and one of the most picturesque outdoor areas in central Shrewsbury, Dill makes for an excellent spot to share good food and even better company.

.elephantandco Shrewsbury

Tucked discreetly off the beaten path, Elephant Gate is one of Shrewsbury’s newer brunch additions. You might miss it if you’re not looking — but once inside, the inviting ambiance and warm service make you glad you found it. The menu reads like a flavour lover’s dream, though not every dish delivers quite as promised.

🥑 Halloumi, Honey & Avocado
A solid brunch staple at a good price point. The halloumi brought the expected saltiness but the avocado was the letdown — overly smooth and reminiscent of store-bought guac. Hints of fragrant Middle Eastern za’atar were promised but sadly didn’t materialise, leaving the dish a little flat.

🍳 Arabian Eggs
The concept was full of promise, but the ex*****on faltered. Beans were overcooked, turning to mush and muting the depth of flavour we expected. Eggs were sadly overdone with no runny yolk in sight, and chorizo was more cameo than co-star.

🥩 Steak & Eggs
The star of the lineup. A generously sized bavette — well-cooked and satisfying. While it could’ve soared with some finesse (think sliced presentation and a splash of chimichurri), it still holds its own as a protein-packed option, especially at just £12.

✨ Atmosphere & Service
Friendly service and relaxed vibe go a long way. With stiff competition in Shrewsbury, a bit more finesse in the kitchen could push Elephant Gate into a firmer spotlight as the environment’s charming — and word has it the cocktails and bottomless brunch are something of a hit. That alone might be worth a second visit🍸

We were welcomed with warm, homemade black olive bread and chive butter, a lovely gesture that set the tone for what was to come. The meal featured highs that truly impressed us. Confit pork belly with oriental notes, cauliflower with added texture from cashew was balanced and bold. The second starter of roast beetroot was a work of art and showcased the earthiness beetroot lovers are looking for but with only one piece, more of it to accompany the delicately flavoured burrata panna cotta would have been welcomed.

On to the mains-The chicken delivered a juicy, flavour-packed punch, lifted even further by silky mash and sweetcorn veloute, this dish comes highly recommended. The lamb done two ways, rump plus a delicate pastry tart case filled with tender lamb shoulder and red pepper was satisfying, with the dauphinoise standing out as a highlight. Visually, for us, the plating didn’t quite match the finesse of the flavours, but ex*****on remained solid across the board.

What slightly dulled the experience was everything around the food.
Saturday night, was unexpectedly subdued. With such rich historical character, this venue could and should be buzzing with charm and life. Instead, it felt like a quiet echo of what it could be.

We’d return for the food but only if the vibe gets a much needed lift.

Tucked behind Shrewsbury’s bustling Market Square, inside the blends local charm with fresh, flavourful food in a quietly relaxed setting.

The atmosphere here is laid-back and welcoming, ideal for brunch, a light lunch, or simply coffee and cake in peace. The standout feature is a spacious courtyard, offering a sun-drenched spot that’s perfect during warmer months. Behind the scenes, and manager Claire keep things running smoothly, and you can feel their personal touch in both the food and the service.

Food-wise, the café punches well above its weight. We had the avocado toast with poached egg and crispy bacon, which came in a generous portion, beautifully presented and packed with flavour. It was everything a comforting brunch dish should be. The Super Greens Salad with added chicken hit a different note - fresh, nutritious, and vibrant with ingredients like quinoa, beetroot, kale, and pickled carrot.

We also spotted the khobez wraps, served open-style on flatbread. They looked seriously tempting, definitely one for next time.

With a rotating line-up of events and collaborations, SMAG isn’t just a café, but part of Shrewsbury’s growing cultural scene.

In a town already bursting with great food spots, SMAG Café manages to feel fresh, relaxed, and genuinely memorable. It’s the kind of place that’s easy to miss but once you know it’s there, you’ll want to return!
