Introducing the (current) kitchen! 🍽️
This might be our least favourite space currently in the house for a number of reasons but it leads onto one of our favourite spaces! The kitchen benefits from a rather small single storey extension built in approximately 1950. Unfortunately, when constructed, the extension was not sufficiently tied into the adjacent original structure and due to possible issues with the foundations, has started to come away from the main house which is evident by significant cracking and water ingress. This has caused damage to the main timber beam which in turn is creating sagging in the original external wall above. As a result, we quickly installed acrow props to provide more support to the timber beam and prevent any more damage.
Our intention is to remove the extension entirely and to return the wall to how it was originally designed with the addition of glass doors leading out into the garden. As previously stated, we intend to use the Family Room as our kitchen so this space will become a dining/breakfast room. We have plans to decorate this in a similar way to a Georgian servants kitchen with a very muted and pared back aesthetic.
We will be replacing the roof in the space linking the stores and the kitchen with a large roof light and this space will be used as a winter garden/snug space! We can’t wait to spend many summer evenings out in the courtyard! ☀️🌻
