It’s been 8 years since I packed up a backpack and set off on my travels 🤯

3 months wandering through Bali, Fiji, Thailand and Australia and honestly, I had the time of my life 🙌

But looking back, that trip wasn’t just about seeing the world. It was the start of finding my confidence.

Before that, I could barely order food in a restaurant without breaking out in hives… fast forward to now and I’m standing on stages happily chatting about all sorts of things.

It’s so easy to forget how far you’ve come until something, like a memory popping up, reminds you.

I’ve always believed in feeling the fear and doing it anyway. That’s exactly what I lean on in business too, pushing myself to do things that feel uncomfortable but I know will move me forward.

Whether that’s putting yourself on camera for the first time, saying yes to a speaking gig, or trying something new in your marketing… growth happens when you step outside your comfort zone.

What’s been your “feel the fear, do it anyway” moment?

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s this:

I love a good chat.

Marketing, business, or what you had for dinner last night...I’m here for it.

Which is why I’m so excited (and maybe you’ll think unlucky for you!) that from 1st September you can tune in every week to hear me and Fuzzy Logic talk all things marketing and business.

That snooping you’re doing on your competitor every day… 👀

It might feel harmless (or even helpful for inspo), but here’s the thing: you could actually be helping them.

Most social platforms track idle time...so even if you’re not liking, commenting, or sharing, the fact you’re regularly hanging around on their posts signals to the algorithm that their content is keeping people engaged.

And what happens then? The platform pushes it out to even more people.

Wild, right? So next time you’re deep-diving your competitor’s feed, just remember… you might be giving their reach a little boost.

Stock images vs real photos...which should you use on your socials?

Here’s the truth:

Stock images have their place. They’re quick, easy, and can look polished.

But… your audience can spot them a mile off.

Real photos, even if they’re not perfectly staged instantly feel more authentic. They show you, your team, your space, your product in action.

They tell a story that stock just can’t.

👉 Which do you think builds more trust?
👉 Which makes someone stop scrolling because it feels real?

If you want your audience to connect with you, show them the real you.

So… are you still leaning on stock, or is it time to get some real photos out there?

Want to know how to show up online without the 'ick'? ... it starts by posting like you actually talk.

I don’t walk into a meeting and launch into a five-minute monologue without coming up for air… so why would my content be like that?

If it doesn’t sound like you, your audience won’t believe it’s you.

Who's guilty of waffling on posts? 👀

Don’t be afraid to repeat yourself.

I know it feels awkward posting something you’ve “already said”…

But here’s the thing, most people didn’t see it the first time.

Or if they did? They probably forgot.

Your content doesn’t need to be brand new every time, it just needs to be relevant.

💡 That great post from last year? Tweak the intro and repost.
🎥 That video you did for Reels? Trim it and share it as a LinkedIn post.
📸 That quote graphic? Turn it into a caption.
📩 That newsletter tip? Pull it into a short-form video.

Your audience is always growing, give new followers a chance to hear your best bits.

Repurposing isn’t lazy. It’s smart, strategic, and sustainable.

So stop burning yourself out.

Start building a content bank you can pull from again and again.

Your future self will thank you!

“I don’t know what to post!”

You’re not alone, I hear this all the time.

But the truth is… inspiration is everywhere. You just need to know where to look!

Here are a few of my go-to places when I need a little content spark:

💭 Conversations – What questions are people asking you lately? That client who said “I didn’t realise you did that!” = instant post.

📸 Your camera roll – Honestly, scroll back. That event you went to, a recent milestone, a behind-the-scenes snap. There’s gold in there.

🧠 Your past mistakes or lessons – Share what you’ve learnt the hard way. People relate to honesty more than perfection.

📅 Your own calendar – Think meetings, site visits, upcoming launches, even office snacks (don’t underestimate the biscuit post 🍪).

📩 Your inbox – If someone emailed you a great question, answer it publicly. If one person asked, others are wondering too.

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel, you need to look at your day-to-day with fresh eyes.

What’s something small you could post about this week?

My best tip for any business just starting out with their social media?

Invest in your content.

That doesn’t always mean spending loads of money, sometimes it’s just investing your time:

🎥 Taking some behind-the-scenes clips
📸 Snapping photos on the job
🗓️ Setting aside time each week to plan what you’ll share

Of course, when the time is right, bringing in a photographer or videographer can seriously elevate things, but it starts with effort, not budget.

Because you can’t expect professional results from passive input, the more you put in, the more you get back.

I always tell clients to let authenticity shine through their content, which means not just sharing polished wins, but also the moments where things didn’t quite go to plan.

We’ve all got those little work blunders that haunt us at 3am.

So… what’s yours?

Mine? Back in my hairdressing days, I once took out the foils… and her hair came out with it.

Yep. That one still lives rent free in my nightmares 😅

Marketing isn’t just about highlights (pun intended), it’s about being human.

So let’s hear it… what’s your funniest or most mortifying mistake on the job?

Last week, I did a talk on letting your personality lead, and honestly, that’s exactly how I approach things with my clients at HW Media Management and through The Rookie CEO.

I'm not recreating the wheel here when I say your marketing should actually sound like you... Yet this is what people often struggle with the most.

Because if that’s not how you talk to your customers in real life… why are you speaking like that online?

People buy from people, especially in small business.

(And don't forget, studies show your posts should be at a reading age of a 9 year old!!)

A lovely morning at the Kent Science Park with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) 🙌

Dr Tim Aker gave me probably the nicest introduction I’ve ever recieved, it’s a genuine pleasure to be a small part of the FSB - thank you for asking me to speak today.

I shared all about how I encourage clients to lean into their personalities in their marketing, to attract their dream customers.

Because ultimately, everyone can be good at their job… but no one is you (and that’s pretty damn cool) 👏
