INCIDENT - SKEGNESS

Earlier this afternoon, a swimmer was rescued from the water south of the lifeguarded area by a member of the public. Lifeguards responded and provided first aid before the coastguard rescue team and ambulance service arrived to take over.

Thankfully she was fine but this again highlights the importance of swimming between the flags, which is the area lifeguards are supervising and can respond to within seconds.

The flags are there for a reason. The teams assess the hazards on the day and place them in specific places accordingly. Please only swim between them to protect you from hazards and also to make sure you are in the eye line of the lifeguards on duty.

🏖️ With the weather about to soar once again, the Lincolnshire coast is set for a busy weekend… we have a very important safety message from one of our good friends Lifeguardmaxi all the way from Australia!🦘 (you may have seen him on your tv’s)

We advise if you are visiting any coastal beach to follow these safety tips,

🛟Stay topped up on sun cream 🧴
🛟Stay hydrated (water) 🚰
🛟Don’t leave your children unattended 🚸
🛟Ask lifeguards for safety advice 🗣️
🛟Strictly NO inflatbles within the sea 🛟
🛟Swim between the red & yellow flags 🚩
🛟Wear a flotation device/something bright coloured (if possible)
🛟NO running & diving into shallow water 🤿
🛟Do not enter water after consuming alcohol or drugs
🛟Read and obey safety signs

If you find yourself struggling in the water tilt your head back with your ears submerged, relax and move your hands to help you stay afloat. This is called ‘FLOAT TO LIVE’

🛟Remember to dial 999 or 112 immediately in any coastal emergency and ask for the coastguard. Not all incidents can be avoided, but this will significantly reduce if followed correctly. Have a safe weekend all please share this may help oveRNLIeMaritime and Coastguard Agency LIVESoHM Coastguard Skegness RNLI SkegnessdRNLI Lifeguards LincolnshireLI Lifeguards Lincolnshire
